FINALLY after 4 months I finished the machine in my sig. Came out with 5637 3D marks. Gonna do a bit of tweaking and try again :thumb:

(Well, it only cost me £40 :))

Good score bigZ that really is a good overlcock.

Full 16% Increrase in GPU limited situations.

    Cheers :D

I think there is a bit more there with some ramsinks on the BGAs possibly another 10Mhz to be had out of the mem :)

also there was virtually no artefacts at all, basically had 2 tears in the entire benchmark, and they were fairly minor

Memory bandwith increases scores a lot on the ATI 9600 XT becuase it is starved of memory bandwidth.

You can see the equilivant of core speed increases by just clocking the memory on a ATI 9600 XT.

I did notice quite a big increase in speed from the increased memory clocks indeed :D

Don't get the 5950 Ultra, while its 3D Mark 03 scores are ok its real life shader performance is very bad for a high end card.

Here is a shader test we did between a FX 5950 and a ATI 9800 Pro.

    http://www.tech-pc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24121&highlight=

Do you know about the NV3x temporary register problem games developers and users have found out?

When running a Pixel Shader program you have to store temp values - at the aproapiate word-lenth requested by the shader program (FP32/FP16) for NV3X.

NV3X has a hardware problem where it can only store 2 FP32 temps OR 4 FP16 temps before there 'quad' pipeline stalls.

FP32 and FP16 should be at the same speed on NV3X, but it isn't bacuase the limited register problem.

It is a hardware - problem that has not fixed but 'worked-around' by reducing the number of temp values stored at one time, by ensuring developers :

    1) Use the DirectX '_pp' partal precison 'hint' (FP16 output) when programing DX shaders.

    2) In OpenGL, program spersisfic 'Nvidia' codepaths that are programmed to use FP16 - low precision.

Lower Precision levels do decrease image quality.

Ask your self a question.... Why would you want a card that runs DX9 Pixel Shaders slower with worse image quality?

That is a 5900lx running at 5950 via a hack.

i decided to go as hard as i could and knabbed 4415 :D with my Gigabyte Radeon 9600 XT using the software V-Tuner for OCing to 603/718 (stock 500/600). I dont remember if i OCed my proc, but from what ive noticed it doesnt affect 3D Mark '03

btw, card was only $150 US, so id say it was pretty damn worth it!

Still got ye old XP1600+, 512 DDR, and Epox 8K3a+, but now got a Rad 9800se (no softmod) and an additional 120GB Maxtor, and I got 3,900 (ish, forget exactly). Dead pleased with that. Getting an 8RDA soon and an XP2500 so will give some backup beef. Not too fussy on benchies though tbh, so long as my games look good (mmm, Farcry) then I'm warm as an egg.

    3gig hyper threading pentium
    9800xt (sapphire)
    1gb ram
not overclocked or changed, result was straight from an xp install and sp1 install.
