Windows Deleting files

    I was messing around on my computer and named a file with a .exe file type. And now i cant delete it . It says file is in use.Can you help?

    What kind of file was it? Was it a virus? If so, update your virus scanner. If you don't have one AVG free edition. And run a virus scan in safe mode.

    More info on what the file is and was would be nice.

    that means its still loaded in memory.

    In NT when an app is copy'd to VM, the physical instance can be locked.
    Look at the process list in taskman to see if you can see it listed there.
    If not, head over to www.sysinternals.com and download one of the PE listing utilites, that will tell you which process has it mapped.

    go into does and stop windows using it?
    then delete

    if only i could remember dos though....

    if you dont think its loaded, try to shift-delete it.

    i have to do that to stuff in a partition mounted in my redirected "my docs" folder ...

    If your still running win9x then i would sugest you have problems, rather than your computer.
    Going into "dos" in NT isn't possible, you can jsut go into WOW (Windows ON Windows) which dosen't help at all.

    If its still loaded after a reboot, you know you have problems.

    I've got xp pro and no knowledge of dos. Its not a virus. It says its being used by another person or program.

    i mean go to start run, then type cmd
    then the rest but too long ago for me to remember the rest :(

    Just restart your computer, then see if u can delete it.
