That's a kickass birthday present and sounds like a pretty kickass girlfriend. Have fun with the new toys, looks like you've got a really good setup planned...
thanks guys! she really is the best! do u guys know if i will encounter problems with the D-tek alu top waterblock? was just informed not 2 mix that with my other copper based parts? just placed my order so need 2 get more feedback whether 2 cancel it or not
No, there shouldn't be any problem with it if you use distilled/deionized water with something like water wetter.
Nice one dude. Was wondering though, what part does the dog play in this watercooling setup (yellow water dye? ) me shudders to think
you can safely mix metals (ie. copper and aluminum), swiftech does that with their blocks, however, that increases the risk of galvanic corrosion, so a corrosion inhibitor needs to be used. the aluminum top should be anodized, which is a protective coating, but you still need the additive. water wetter might be ok, although I've heard good and bad about it (it has a tendancy to leave white crud on the tubes and other surfaces in your loop), if you plan on using it for its anti-corrosion properties, you'll have to use a lot for it to effectively protect your loop. i'm pretty sure that the concentration of Swiftech's additive was reccomended to be around 25-30%, just some things to think about. *edit* i'd suggest checking the documentation that came with the waterblock, or checking D-Tek's website for what they suggest to prevent corrosion.
thanks guys good feedback i might go with the poly top. i have just ordered waterwetter...but might just use antifreeze sorry 4 pics of dog he likes photos being taken of him hope 2 complete the setup by next week..pics then now bz sucking up 2 the missus
i believe swiftech recommend 5% HydrX .... though getting hold of it may not be easy as i don't think there are any UK sellers (yet - think overclock.co.uk might be going to get some on their next shipment)
