4 HDD?s stack cooling with 120mm fan, possible problems?.

    Small question ?

Will placing a 120mm fan flush against a rack of 4 HDD?s (on the face opposite to the connectors) cause any problems?

    i.e. interference, data loss etc.

the 4 HDD?s are stacked one on top of each other with a 10 mm gap between them gonna use one 120mm fat to force air though this stack too cool the HDD?s

    Regards,

I dont think that there would be any problems with it.
But i would wait for some other opinions first.

I would recommend not having it flush against them to help elliminate dead spots. I have two 80mm fans half an inch in front of five hard drives.

maybe he just doesn't have the room in the case.
perhaps he could use/mod a H20 cooling radiator shroud like this one

I agree 100%! I currently have 2 200gb hdd's stacked that way and they get VERY hot. I would recommend no les than half an inch space between hard drives.

    My 2¢

design constraints forcing me to keep it flat against the rack

maybe give it another 10 mm gap max

    would that suffice

or should i put a some kind of metal grill b4 it to shield it ?

    btw how thick is a standard 120 mm fan (120 X 120 X ?? )

i have a chinese made non branded one its 25mm

usin this one as a reference

    25mm.

Really though, it shouldn't cause any interference.

dont need tht i already made some thing better

my issue waz wit the a spinning 120 mm fan causing interference with a HDD & would using a metal mesh of screen of some sort prevent any such interference ??
