I would like to eliminate as much wiring as possible in my new project. As you can see from the picture below, I have two fans, side-by-side, that I would like to wire together and power off the same 12V connector and also make it switchable from a single toggle (also seen in the picture).

Can you tell me how to accomplish this -- what soldering I might have to do, what power line I should use, etc.? Is it also possible to wire it to a speed controller at another location on the case(and still switch it from the toggle)?

I can mod pretty good, but I ain't no 'lectrician. I do have a soldering iron and know how to use it, but I don't know ANY of the technical stuff.

    Thanks for any assistance.

just connect up the red wires together and the black wires together. The yellow wire (speed sense) can be left connected to one of the fans, with the other one just cut off.

    I hope that makes sense!
    Code:
    ________ ____
    | \ / |---RED-------o---------------| |
    | () |---BLACK-----|-o-------------| | <--connector
    | / \ |---YELLOW----|-|-------------|____|
    |------| | |
    ________ | | <--wires spliced together
    | \ / |---RED-------o |
    | () |---BLACK-------o
    | / \ |---YELLOW-- <--yellow wire of one fan cut off
    |------|

    ascii is amasing isnt it!

Wow, and an artist too. :hehe: Thank you. It should be easy enough to solder those wires together.

    Now for the other questions:

Will the standard toggle switch in the image (it came from a cold cathode lamp that has an inverter that accepts 2 lamps) provide enough current [syntax?] for both fans?

Is it possible to run a wire(s) to a remote fan speed controller inside the case and still use the toggle for on/off?

    Thank you.

PS: another view -- just because I wanted to show off. :baby:

    1. Yes, those rocker switches can handles amps of current, definitely more than those fans would ever draw before blowing up.

    2. Yes. You'll want to have it wired up like so:

    Code:
    Fan 1 + - -|
               |- - - - - _/ _ - - - - - Fan Controller
    Fan 2 + - -| Switch |
                                          |
    Fan 1 (-) - -| |
                 |- - - - - - - - - - - - |
    Fan 2 (-) - -|

(Not as pretty as C's, but functional)

that looks like a killer mod......I was wondering where did you get those fans and did you make the connector for them or did they come that way ?

Thank you. The fans are from Cooler Master. The connector is a custom fan grill that I designed and had water jet cut by Chris Baltar of Custom Water Cuts. They are s'posed to look like the toothy grimace in my avatar.

Thanks to all for the excellent info on controlling these 2 fans. I appreciate it and you have made my job easier.

If you still want to get the speed then take the yellow wire and use it in the connector you cut off to go to the header on the motherboard
