i would think that is just a demo photo to show you what the innards look like

reason i say this is they dont mention it anywhere in the description and its kinda hard to pull off the window mod and have the drive still work, yes even for the manufacturers.

    EMI shielding
    UV light
    other light

these are problems the HD companies really dont feel like solving because your average person doesnt care about a window in their HD, hell they dont even have a window in their case.

Hate to be the stick in the mud but i highly doubt they are windowed.

[edit: here is the official spec sheet for that specific model HD from Seagate ...

    (PDF) http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_barracuda7200.7.pdf

nothing there about a window either they are just show pics bro save your money]

Thats just a picture to show you how its supposed to look like.

The HDD does not ship with a window.

If you go to any HDD manufacturer web page, you're bound to find at least one picture showing the drive like that.

Possibly. But why go through the trouble of making a clear lid when most manufacturers just photograph one with the lid taken off?

In any case the rumour mill has it that one manufacturer (I believe Hitachi?) is prototyping transparent harddisks commisioned by Apple for one of their weird design projects, and that they like the idea so much they've decided to develop some PC ones. But hey, it's just a rumour.

Is it just me, or has the picture changed since last night? When I viewed it last night, it had what appeared to be a fabricated clear plexi lid, now it's a normal hdd with it's lid taken off o_O

You're right. I checked it this morning and it had a clear plex lid, now (4pm)the pic is larger without the lid on.

no, thats not a modded HD.

Have you ever been to fry's electronics? almost every other HD there looks like that, but the ones in the boxes are just normal.

I asked a Seagate rep about a year and a half ago if I could buy one of their demo disks on display at an AMD Tech Tour. He said sorry :hehe:

PS - It was a fabricated lid like that one

I reckon the ones they show with windows in the side are the ones which are either stuffed off the manufacturing line or ones which have been return DOA. They still look fine, but they are useless. No one would notice..

    No it's not :D

All manufacturers and advertisers use pics of the drives with the cover off for some reason. That's just a standard 200Gb 7200.7, as there is no mantion of modding in the add, and the price is just an average price for that drive.

The earlier picture was probably a bad grab or a bad scan or something.

The one now seems like the normal stuff displayed everywhere.

No, the HDD in the earlier pic really did have a plexi lid. But on some other forums people have linked to that site assuming this was a modded HDD, so Tiggerdirect must have changed the picture after they kept being approached with the same querey over and over again...

It was so hard to find the original image that was on the site.

It was sitting there on the front page:

It's probably just a ddmo model produced by Seagate.
