I have acquired a copy of Windows media center. But when I try to install it it says "This copy of Windows can only be installed on a media pc" What heck makes a pc a media center? How can I trick the software to think the pc is a media center? Im at a loss, thanks y'all! Sponger
I was under the impression it only came with pre-built machines, which raises the question of how exactly you "acquired" it....
from what ive heard media center is just a waste ... if youre looking for a mulitmedia frontend for a htpc, there are several more viable options. saw a good list on the htpcnews forums. personally i just use xp pro.
You used to be able to get it if your place of work or in my case uni was under the MDSA or something. It means you can have microsoft software for the length of your stay at the company.
XP is MUCH better than Windows Media OS I have a built in tv-tuner with remote control. I can change stations, watch vcr tapes, dvds, power of the pc, power on the pc all from my remote from my bed. DVD Player, Xbox, Playstation, VCR can all be connected and controlled through my tuner card. Xp is MUCH better.
I "acquired" it through our msdn subsriction here at work. And I had heard that the OS kinda sucked, but I just wanted to try it out and see how it looked and such. I do plan on making an htpc anyway, and was gonna use myhtpc as the front end anyway, but wanted to give it a shot. I cant get it to work so Im just gonna give it up as a loss cause obviously MS is too proprietary for there own good! Thanks guys!
