Yup, you heard right, I bought a brick - actually, it's a 1988 Volvo 240dl in prestine condition :) My parents bought a 850 Turbo (sweet car) and since I needed a new car, I decided to buy their 240. It's in prestine condition, very well maintained, only one rust spot which is minor and I will repair and it's loaded. Well, I do have to replace the blower motor, but other than that, it's in fantastic condition. Yes, I know it's going to take days to replace the blower too - I already got the instructions off the net.

    Enough, on with the pics:

    Nice
brick it may be but the bumpers/fenders what ever they're called in the states are pretty much capable of shrugging off anything short of a full scale nuclear attack lol,

    to quote an old movie
hmm slight lowering job and a big spangley set of volvo t5 alloys appeal to anyone?

Yea, my mother has driven nothing but a Volvo since the early 80's and other than they cost an arm and a leg to have repaired, they last forever. No way I'm lowering this car though - we get too much snow in the winter.. Alloy rims on the other hand would be nice ;)

My mother was driving her 1969 Volvo back in the 70s when a VW bug ran a redlight right in front of her. Caught the front corner of the bug and set it into a spin. She got out of the Volvo, saw that the bug was completely totaled, looked at the Volvo to find a knick in the rubber of the front bumper.
Volvo's rock. And that's a mighty fine looking one.

    :)

    Hahahaha! WTF is that from?

More pics to come. I've been doing a LOT of reading about these cars and I guess that most of the gauges are pre-wired and very simple to install. I took the day off work tomarrow to install my audio gear and have decided that I'm going to be going to the pull-it yard in the morning to see if I can find a bunch of gauges. As it is now, it has the big clock and no smaller gauges - I'm going ot try and find a large tach, small clock, volt and I hope a tripple gauge set for the upper dash with vacuum, ambient temp and oil pressure.

Me thinks I smell a car mod project log soon! Would that go in Project Logs or Motors? Hmmm... :)

Nice car DAD! I learned how to drive in a 1984 Volvo station wagon. Sturdiest thing I've ever ridden in that wasn't military. And nigh invulnerable. There's a reason they call them "swedish tanks."

Nice Volvo 240 DAD, it looks like it is in great condition.

    What engine make/model is it?

The 240s were nearly always faster than the 340's.

My 1989 Volvo 340 had the Renault 1.7 engine.

As far as I know, that era 240 only came with a 2.3l inline-4... It's pretty peppy for that engine / weight combo - I believe that the engine is putting out about 120hp and the weight is a shade under 3000lbs...

Uh, UK to US translation please... The bonnet is the hood, correct? Is a 5pot the same as saying 5-cylinder?

Yes I think pot is another word for cylinder.

Any chance of a picture of the engine sometime? I am interested to see what that 2.3 Inline-4 looks like.

    Thanks.

Thanks Dad, I have ways wondered what the 240's engine is like, it does have a lot of similarity to my preivous Volvo 340's engine.

    Thanks a lot.
