Hey, i need to know, well not need just wanted to know, the minimum requirements for the game. I read the Benchmarks review and they said it should run on 1.2ghz systems, but i'd like to make a confirmation of this, so i don't waste money on it. thanks.

I think it was along the lines of at least 1.6 Ghz processor and a direct-x 9 compliant card (you don't really need that but it would help alot). When they say 1.60 Ghz (or 1.2), I think that really means up to 2.0 with an Intel setup (so essentially an XP 1700 should be fine at 1.47 Ghz). Really I don't pay any attention to that stuff. What will really help with that game is a gig of ram, at least a 9600 Pro or comparable nVIDA card (to get decent frames), and decent throughput with your FSB. Lets go low end here as an example. An older VIA KT266a motherboard with an XP2100 and a TI4600 video card, and 512 MB of ram. This setup would benefit from an added stick of ram and a nice clock on the video card with coolbits to run the game smoothly at medium settings at 800x600 an 1024x768 I would imagine (No AA or AF). Up a little now: Nforce2 motherboard, XP2500, 9600 Pri (ATI), 768 Megs of ram- this setup should run meduim at 1024x768 just fine for the most part, and possibly notching a few things to high and overclocking the video card (The ATI 9600 Pro OC'es well). Up even more, Nforce2, XP processor running at 2.2 Ghz stable, ATI 9800 Prio 128 MB, 1 Gig of ram - this setup should net you meduim to meduim high on a few settings easily. And of course nealrly all A64 AMD setups would be great as long as video adapter capabiility is good and you have enough ram.

Now, if your stuck with a much older system that runs at (for example) 100 FSB (200DDR) and a 700 Mhz slot -A processor and a TI4200 with 256 MB of ram the game will creep very slow I think. It will definitely be interesting to see how well (for example) a Duron 900 would handle with game with a R9700p.

This of course is just an AMD scenario. Much the same wold apply to an Intel setup. You would need a higher rated clock with an Intel chip to see the same results with it though. For instance, the XP2500 would be roughly comparable to an Intel 2.8 chip (at stock clocks). However AMD A64 technology processor actually outperform the Intel chips now, but like you may be, and I am at this moment - got you run what you have.

i'd say its probably safe to say if you can run farcry then you should be able to run Doom 3, as a sort of guide

If you're worried about it you could just wait for the demo and see if you can run that?

I've just read through it all, and there's one thing that I just don't get...

How on earth does that work????

So if you've only got six gigs left on your computer then you just use two, however if you've got 4 gigs left then you use it all?

    Doesn't seem right to me...

You sure it isnt Four GB of hard drive space:. Two GB is suggested if your PC is running low on free space. ???

    if not I'm baffled

The question is, will you need 2gb of hdd space?

And the answer is that you will need 4gb, and from how he words it, it seems to be the minimum :jawdrop:

I'm guessing they mean a minimum install takes 2 gigs, but uses a lot of other space for swap file usage, whereas a full install would take up 4 gigs, but use less for swap file?

I don't know, it's too hot here for me to think straight :wallbash:

Yea the extra 4 gigs is probably for swapfile. i also think its that because a drive thats almost full performs slower than a drive that has a lot more free space.

Nice K7 rig :) I have Biostar M7NCG 400 and an XP3200 (unlocked) that I have easily had to 2.5 Ghz (yes even on this mATX). I also have an XP2500 barton and an M2500 (used on a shuttle AN35N). I'm about to get an SIS 755 mobo (won't overclock much at all but I won't need it to with a 3400+ A64. Then in a few months the ATI X800 Pro.

Completely, you might as well be running a cele for all the good SDram is doing you. Its like youve bought a nice pair of expensive running shoes (gfx), but they are 4 sizes too small (ram).

I know many people in that situation. The SDRAM is a bottleneck. A real one. However with the R9700p the game will be mininally playable. By minimal I mean probably 800x600 at 20-25 FPS will everything turned down. The nice thing about Doom3 though wil be that it won't make any difference what soundcard you run - the game itself handles accel and an augigy 2 won't get you any more FPS or advanced EAX at all. You can run AC97 and it will sound just as goodas an Audigy 2. It's the first game coded specifically that way that I know of.

The rig in my sig (haha that rhymes) is the one that i'd play this on if I bought it, but I'm wondering whether the radeon 9200 would let it down. I mean, I can hardly play farcry on low detail and I know that the sys.reqs on doom 3 say that an 8500 should be fine, however just below that statement, it recommends graphics cards which all cost >£200.

You can nab a 9800 Non Pro, or 9800 Pro 128 MB for less. or if you could find a r9700p that would do fine :)
