Nice! If you manage to do that with honour, I'll bow to you.

Well I'm not one to lower myself to the mod-god talk :eyebrow: , but nevertheless this looks like a nice original design, looking forward to see the LEDs around the button, and hope you can keep the spiral design to the case in a modest fashion :)

what you see on that sketchup drawing is the extent of the spiral that you will be able to see when the case is in its rack.. but i do have those "blade" fan grills that are kinda spiraly, that will go on all the fans.. not visible though, unless you take it out of its rack :D

Thanks for the comments guys, i wasnt going for originality, but i suppose its a plus that i have managed to get it :D

Rackmount cases are expensive because they're extremely sturdy due to their high gauge sheet metal and solid construction. I bought an "inexpensive" 4U rackmount for around $200 at http://www.electroseller.com and I'm currently transforming it. (see sig)

hey ripz *waves* nice project mate, maybe keep the spiral lights and use a 'normal' window, like the one in the original pic.

ok, got a few photos for you.. cant upload any more.. my digital camera seems to have died.... here yee go...

    Some stuff:

    The Spiral - Lacking LED's:

    Its beautiful ass:

there are things i havent taken photos of yet, such as the HDD caddy, the window (which i totally changed from the spiral design), the DVD-ROM mount etc.. but will get them up ASAP...

The black finish on the front (as seen on spiral photo) will be flapwheeled to brushed-aluminium perfection :)

The inside i will either polish up [lot of work], brush like the front, or spray white, not decided yet, i may even leave it black...

other things that havent been cut yet are the two fan holes.. intake @ HDD's, and exhaust above I/O panel... there will be a few days break now from this project because i'm juggling it and decorating my bedroom... and doing both at once is creative much mess...

    TaTa for now

    WOW!!
Im so glad i found this thread... im doing the same thing, but im making a pc to use with my dj equipment out on the road. Have been looking at the cases too and its like 200 quid plus for a 4u rackmount case!
    Silly!

Ripz would you be able to email me, as i have a couple of questions about the case and i was wondering if you could take a couple of pictures inside the case too?
Also what are you using to cut it? surely a dremel with cutting blades wouldnt cut through that?

    Good luck

    Matt
