im running my msi 6800gt at the speeds in my sig,
    with a gb of ddr333,
    p4 2.4b 533fsb,
    Aopen mx4sgi-n
    all drivers are fully updated

and im getting around 8000 in 3dm03 and 2800 in 05

these seem really low for my card, even with my card overclocked to 3.2 on my friends spare mobo (as mine doesnt have pci lock) it only goes to about 8300/2900

anyone any ideas? or does it sound about right?

I'm going to bump this thread, because I have a very similar problem on a very similar system. My system specs:

    P4 2.4 533FSB
    MSI 845PE-MAX2
    768MB DDR333 TwinMOS RAM
XFX Geforce 6800 Ultra (running on AGP 4x)

I get 2900 in 3dmark05. Haven't tried 03 yet, but I will. I'm sure I'm supposed to get a bit more than that. Normally I wouldn't care much for benchmark results, but I'm afraid that it's not quite as fast as it's supposed to be in games either. As reviews have shown DOOM3 running on 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF High Details with 28 as the minimum framerate (similar system, only with a 600MHz faster P4), somewhere in the 50's average, I'd expect it to run just smooth on 1280x960 0xAA 0xAF High Details. But in highly detailed areas the framerate drops to about 10.

I had an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro before this one, so I though perhaps that there were traces of the Catalyst drivers on my comp. But no luck running Driver Cleaner. I've checked MSI's website for the lastest chipset drivers, but they're not there. Could it perhaps be related to running AGP 4x?

Sure, the mainboard, CPU and RAM are getting a bit old, but damn. If anyone has any suggestions at all - please don't hesitate to reply. I appreciate all the input I can get.

you guys appear to be CPU limited - a P4 2.4 is not a superbly fast processor. ;)

^^ what he said (bigz is always right dont'cha know ;) )

not only that but the 533MHz but is holding it back considerably as well
rkenny666- try clocking down your card a bit, having it at those speeds wont make a great deal of difference over standard GT or ultra speeds until you hit the Mid 3GHz mark, youd be surprised how little of a difference the speeds on the GPU can make
If you are still using the same ram in the system when you tried it on your friends motherboard that could be an explanation there as to it underperforming

Thanks guys. I'll probably get a CPU upgrade fairly soon anyway.

Edit: Would a AMD Athlon64 3500+ do the trick? :D

I've ordered an AMD Athlon64 3500+ and a MSI K8T NEO2 FIR mainboard. I hope that helps. Since you solved your problem with a new board and an 800MHz overclock, it should do wonders for me too :D

rkenny, did you do some CPU scaling testing?

Try running at 2400MHz, 2800MHz and 3200MHz - take the 3DMark scores and you should see a notable improvement... I saw improvements from switching from a 3800+ to an FX-53, and then to an FX-55, to it is possible that there is more power there to be unleashed from your graphics card. :)

I've just benchmarked my 6800GT OC @ 424/1100 with a 3200 XP processor and got a score of 5260. I wish I could clock it more but I get artifacts at 430MHz :(

Still, not too shabby for a little ol shuttle :D
