Hi! My name is BeWize, I'm from Moscow, Russia (a small country on a map where we usually drink Vodka with white bears ). First of all I wanted to show respect to all bit-tech community - you've gathered "the best of the best". I'll show you the work-log of my latest project - RYC: Recycle Your Computer. This is what it looks like. And here is the 1/4 part of work-log. I'll post the other parts one in 2-3 days. -= R.Y.C. : Recycle Your Computer =- Intro It's dead certain than everyone of you at least once in lifetime said someting like "It's time to put this rig in garbage can". Such burst of anger could be caused by some kind of hang-up or maybe your archaic hardware is too slow for up-to-day software. After this you realy want to recycle your computer. It's a pity that we have garbage containers for glass, paper, organic but not for computers. So the only way to solve the problem is by your own strength: reinstall Windows and/or make an upgrade. ProModz studio which always aims at innovations and interesting tendencies decided to help those emotional users and created Recycle Your Computer project. P.S. Special thanks to Y@m@k@si for such brilliant idea and for help with hardware. Stage1. Idea, Sketches, Stuff For sure Moscow citizens and metropolis guests visited one of IKEA stores and probably came across grid trash bin. The idea of the project is to pack all the hardware inside of this trash bin. Available space inside is to put it mildly "limited", so the only possible way to place all the hardware is to put it in several "levels". But even then not any mobo will fit inside because diameter of the level that is assigned for it is about 23cm (9"). To be specific the only type of mobo we could use is mini-ITX. We didn't want to use VIA Epia because of lack of perfomance and expansibility. So we choose Insight P4-ITX mobo. It combines small size and good expansibility. We could use fast P4 CPU (up to 3.06 GHz) and a PCI slot, where Radeon 9200 was planned to be installed, because integrated video interface was not convinient to us. Once we dealed with stumbling block which was the mobo it was the right time to work out all the levels. We wanted to build it up so that it would be as easy as possible to manage with hardware at any time. You can see that we have 4 levels here that are joined by tacks 8mm (1/3") thick. The first level - the botom one. It is at the left of the sketch. It's as simple as brick - 4 holes for tacks and PSU. The second level - mobo and video. Above and below there is some extra space for PSU wires that will go to the upper levels. On the left and right there are grooves for vertical red neon lights. Also there are 4 holes for tacks. On the third level you can see 8 holes instead of 4. This is the place where 4 bottom levels tacks end and begin other 4 for top levels. Again some extra space below for wires. on this level we have a bookshelf for 5.25" and 3.5" devices that is detailed in the right bottom corner of the sketch. On the top plexi "pancake" we placed the VFD that is covered with red plexi so the color of characters on the display is red-orange instead of light-green. On the right of the display you can see holes for 2 LEDs and RESET button, on the left - POWER button. Next stage is first trial assemble of the stuff inside the trash bin...
I have such a bin next to me, but to turn it into such a beauty You have made me think about it keep on the good work, greez, hackjedi
Sure I have But not so fast To say the truth the back of RYC is the thing i like the less is this project. I'll post it a bit later
WOW! great job. personally, i would have gone with green to go with the recycling theme, but it looks great anyway.
Firstly I also thought of green, but I like RED+CHROME a LOT Anyway it looks vwry nice with red I think
No, the project is finished and I already don't posses it But I didn't want to mod the perepherial devices anyway, maybe because I think that modding of these devices would brake the overall minimalistic style of the project.
great job with the bin. love comps in unusual "cases". sorry to say but this is a finished mod so not a project log. think it has to be moved. sorry to say that. anyway keep it coming
That's one hell of a casemod. Looks extremely gorgeous I can't get my eyes of my own bin now, think I mod it one time MOD ON, and show me thge rest of the proces.
