That's pretty cool. They did the same type of thing on Myth Busters and proved it to be relatively useless for the desired effect of setting boats on fire. It had something to do with the Roman navy having a death ray like that that would ignite the enemy's boat.
I saw the myth busters thing. I think thier mounting board was too floppy and their mirrors weren't aligned very well as a result. This looks much sturdier...and deadlier...and cooler. Good idea...but probably hard to pull off on a big scale.
im not optics expert here... but wouldnt it be possible, if using a prism where the target is, that he could focus that beam coming from the mirrors and destroy anything, thus if he placed a much bigger one on the moon, we could use the focused sun to destroy cities just wondering, no plans at all. (if i was american, id be expecting a visit from the FBI for that post )
Don't you mean SOL? It all seems fine to begin with, then SOL takes over. Let's be serious now, that's about where you are after you've figured out what you've done.
this was on hackaday.com, some guy mentioned one that can melt copper pipe in a few seconds, and since copper melts at 1084.62 °C and wood burns at something like 450 °F i think it'd work. i mentioned that on my post at hackaday, my names ryan
Dunno why, but somehow I just had an idea pop in my head, to make one with 1200 mirrors instead of the used 120 here...
they made a HUGE on of these on myth busters on time, they needs a crain to lift and positition it, unfortunatly the boat they were trying to set on fire didnt catch but it got hot. this one looks alot better then the one they built
i forsee a mod of hundreds of mirrors controlled by a computer to focus on a target the size of a dime.
