I am assuming these LED's are NOT connected to the motherboard headers. This mod will NOT work if you do decide to use motherboard headers unless you use transistors so you can use outside power. If you used the motherboard headers you wouldn't be able to use resistors...am i right? o_O

Well from my understanding it works like this
Power LED always gets a +5v on the + side and ground on the - side
At idle, the HDD LED gets +5v on both leads
During HDD activity, the +5v on the - side drops out to (near) 0v creating the different and letting the LED turn on.

So normally, the diode on the power LED to the HDD led ground would have 5v on either end. But during HDD activity, the power isn't there on the HDD activity side thus letting the power go through the diode and not giving any to the power LED.

So if my understanding is correct, you could take a diode and put it right on the headers, like stuck into the little plastic things or something to that extent. But make sure you use resistors on the LEDs. What I'm not sure about is if the diode would need a resistor in there as well (and if so what rating... could you just use the LED resistor calculator and put in the diodes voltage drop for the LED voltage?)

But don't try that until someone with more electronics knowledge can confirm it!

    Døds fett :thumb:

    But you say this:

"This is easily done by putting a diode between + on the power LED and ground (-) on the HDD LED. (Thanks to ZapWizard who taught me this)."

So you mean that (if I was to make one) I should solder the diodes jumpers to plus on the power led and to minus on the Hdd led? Or should I simply place the diode jumpers beside the led jumpers inside the plastic that covers them?

Could you answer me? Can anyone answer me?
