I had an old Compaq LTE 5400 laptop and I took it apart so all I have is the screen with the speakers and all the video, audio, and power connectors. I want to use this monitor as a regular monitor for my desktop by soldiering a 15 pin monitor connector. Does anyone have any ideas or resources as to how to do this?
Old question, no good answer. You can only get it to VGA by first passing it through a LCD controller. You can find them at earthlcd.com. Good luck on finding one for less than $250
Do you still have the cd-rom from said lap-top? If so, I may be intersted in it... Otherwise, you're SOL on the monitor bit, you can't just connect it up to an RGB out on a video card.
If you still have the controller, you may be able to find a pin-out for it, and connect it to a VGA output.
Read As others have said in a nutshell - you'll most likely need a expensive controller card and it's generally not worth doing unless you can get one cheap.
for the guy wanting an cd drive from a laptop i have an crw =dvd combo ill sell you and for the changing a lcd to an vga it cheaper to buy an lcd monitor from a store first you need to buy a controller and they cost a lot the make some kid of housing that can cost a but and for a 15 in lcd you can buy one cheaper then the cost of changing the laptop screen over to an vga but you could sell it on ebay people have been buying them for around 50 to 200 i sold an 17in one for 250 i would go the ebay way good luck
