I have a power supply, and i have cathodes, how can i get it to run just off the power supply and not having to be plugged into a motherboard for it to turn on.
Yes the cable you plug into your mobo, shorting the green and black wires will turn the power supply on. Then all you need to do is wire your cathose to the twelve volt line. (while the power supply is unplugged )
I just use a paper clip. If you want something a little more permenate, cut and solder the green wire to any of the black ones.
As long as the powers upply is plugged in and the wire is shorted, the psu will remain on. If you are looking for it to be permanent, cut the green and one of the black wires and solder a switch between them.
I get the part about running the power supply without the motherboard...but please tell me you have an inverter? You're not trying to run the CCFLs right from the 12v rail are you?
no inverter, just straight from a psu, and also, i meant can i un jort it if i dont want to jort it anymorE?
the inverter is the little box that you connect the two lamps (tubes) into. cathodes NEED this to function, they use large amounts of voltage to power the lamp (between 600-800 Volts) your powersuply will only supply 12 volts, this is not enough startup voltage to see ANY light. in short i think your mistaken
First, there are no pics. Second, you can't make CCFL's light off just 12v. They need an inverter. Third, you're a dumbass for not being able to short a PSU after being told how to do it. Really no other way to put this, so I'm gonna be blunt...
