Would it be possible to power a router with the computers power supply? The power adapter for the router says its output is 12V DC. would it be possible with a modified power cord to run it off of a molex? I plan to have the router inside of my case for a server project I am working on. It would be nice if I could run it off of the computers PSU with a molex instead of having more power cordsrunning in to the computer.
yeh it should be possible because a molex is 12v DC too so its probably easy enough to do. Just take the plug for the router, chop it off with some wire left where it goes into the router, then solder these onto a molex splitter or something and plug it into a molex Hope that helped. Retro
Easily done, i used to power my wireless access point from my dads computer's power supply as it didn't come with an adapter when i bought it. Just double check you wire it up ok and that theres no bare wire showing, dont want to blow anything up.
Heat shrink can be your friend here. Or get a crimper and some male-female quick disconnects. Do it the pro way.
lol when i first read the title i was thinking router as in spins really fast and cuts things like a huge beefy dremel.
But they're both spelt "router"! Damn English, other languages don't have these problems. And what's the deal with silent letters?
This only makes it worse: Bit-tech is a computer mod site.. so it could have been either. But had this been a computer site only, router would only mean the network device.
but the rabbit hole (whole, =p) goes deeper as bit-tech.com is a drilling company who I believe make router bits (the spinny kind)
modder at heart though and the two routers are definately pernouced the same way. At least in america.... I think you're confusing a router (edge finishing thinger, note the princeton definition towards the bottom) with a rotor But back to the original question, yes, not only can it be done, it's pretty easy.
Nah. Router is a networking device which routes packets. Router is a woodworking machine which spins bits at insane RPMs.. in the 10,000 RPM range.
yup like he said i came across the woodworking router first. but like Cabe said "remeber kids Networking equipment is "Roo-ters" and spinning devices of pain are "Row-ters""
