I think I'll be going with the similarly priced Sennheiser HD555s (£79) as I don't want my Xonar D2X to go to waste. It's maybe a shame that I'd be missing out on a microphone, though.

I never, ever, ever trust "gaming headsets" to sound anything other than utter dog-do.

The best gaming headphones still are the Audio Technica AD700.

Considering this is a gaming hardware site maybe you should go to an audio site to get headphone reviews if you don't like gaming headsets.

Wafflesomd and flaming_goat both have valid points.

Bit should leave hi-fi product reviews to other websites, and even though "high end" gaming headsets fall within Bit's jurisdiction, they're just such a terrible value compared with many similarly priced headphones.

    :-(

i had a logitech g35 usb headset once - it was totally fail

usb headsets arent a patch on a good headset and a high end soundcard.

That's why I went all out a while ago and bought myself a pair of Beyerdynamic MMX 300s. They do cost an arm and a leg* but are worth the money - absolutely no regrets in buying them!

freq response down to 5hz.. really =p

if is has a good signal to noise ratio on the amp looks to be about perfect.. probably multiple speaker design with crossovers to go that low- have to hear it myself.. what I really liked about my novas is I could reproduce music pretty much exactly as it's recorded without all the sb bull

you could close your eyes on live songs and it was like being at the concert.. these sennheiser are nice but it's not the same at all

Sennheiser PC350's still sound pretty good to my ears, certainly as a balance between good gaming audio/movies/music. Plus the build quality is excellent unlike a lot of the cheaper headsets that i've owned, which may offer great value for money, but seem to break after a few months use.

Personally I have a SB arena and I found the sound quality to be rather good, and the microphone apparently is very clear. However, I haven't really had any experience of other headphones / headsets to compare it to.

I think we're fine in reviewing gaming headsets, but don't see us straying into full on headphone reviews - everything just gets a great deal more complex. USB headsets are great as they're plug and play, so work with pretty much everything and provide sound+mic in an easy package - perfect for gaming.

Of course dedicated headphones will sound better, and personally I prefer a dedicated headphone and stalk mic setup. For those who want an all in one solution though headsets like the HS1 do the job, and the HS1 in particular is very comfortable.

    That response is marketing...

They obviously cannot achieve reproduction at 5 hrtz. Like 99% of headphones out there, it's a single driver in each ear capable of good fullrange reproduction from 30-40 to 20khrtz.
