    Thanks!

It would be amazing - I think Intel would consider it too much of a competitor to its juicy i5's and i7's but we can live in hope!

I don't think so. For those of us buying the higher end chips, it's because we need the extra cores, especially with this new batch of games coming out, and the rise of virtualization and whatnot.

Then again, what do I know.. I run a laptop with 16GiB of RAM and twin SSDs to build cloudserver images...

I have an i3-4130 at present, and was thinking of switching to one of these. Would it give any REAL improvements? I'm going into Uni in september, so would possibly be doing rendering on it.. But is the i3-4130 really that much better for rendering? Or is it offset by the improvement in gaming?

I think this is a fantastic chip for those who want to push it to near 5ghz.

Seems to keep up pretty well with the i5's at these speeds in threaded programs and destroy most things in single threaded apps for £50.

    Will be buying :D

G3258 + Asus Z97I Plus + Low Profile GTX 750Ti = the cheap and tiny PC that is fast enough for 99% of the planets population and uses close to no power.

Oh yes don't get me wrong - what I meant was that many of the Core i3's such as the Core i3-4130 feature Hyper-Threading so you get two additional cores, albeit virtual ones compared to the Pentium here, and as you can see from the graphs this makes a big difference in multi-threaded applications and the same would be true for games.

It's a proper quad (i5) is still anywhere between 50-100% faster, let alone the HT quads...

I personally feel there is room for an unlocked i3, maybe with a limited multiplier (to say, 4.2?) compared to the usual line....

    EDIT: grammar and words

EDIT: an even more interesting proposition could be an unlocked Avoton 8-core... Those things produce so littel power.. It would be like the Pentium M vs P4 days all over again!

Considering what this can do I'm kinda shocked it was released. Unless you must have hyperthreading then why buy the cheaper i3s and i5s up to the k chips your not gonna gain much beyond what this can do overclocked.

Scan even have a pre overclocked bundle for sale.

Wow that is pretty impressive! Cheap, good performance, excellent power consumption - I can't really see most people needing much more.

I haven't really been paying much attention to CPUs recently but it's nice to see my 2500k was a decent investment.
