Pretty impressive that they managed to throw basically the same thing in a laptop. Odd that they chose to give the 1070M more cores that the desktop, I understand the power reasoning I just would have thought they would have put in the same number of cores and not worried about the performance difference. Also interesting that the desktop chip didn't launch with 16SMs, I suppose that was to help keep it away from the 1080.

The performance jump is unbelievable from my 980m to one of these... Never thought the 980m would become this obsolete so fast... :O

Put a 1060 in a 14" thin chassis and I'll be all over it.

Edit: So excited that I didn't read the end of the article. Happy days!

Any chance of getting some laptops in to do some benchmarks to see how these new mobile chips stack up vs the desktop versions as well as previous mobile chips?

It's getting a bit like cpu's in that the difference between laptop and desktop cpu's is not a lot unless you o/c. I suppose as more and more people don't want to own a desktop any longer then making laptops close to equal to desktops for gaming is a smart move to keep pc gaming alive (and hence nvidia's bottom line).
