    Don't these obviously have brand value (especially for the high-spec ones as a prestige product)? Would be nonsense to ditch them now.

    This is MS though, 'we've not ditched it' does not necessarily mean 'we're giving the brand any of our attention'...

    MS Basically stopped giving any kind of meaningful **** about Windows Phone not longer after Windows 10 released, but they were still, until now, going 'we've not ditched it, it's still a thing'.

    Heck, I don't think MS ever officially cancelled the Zune. They said they were serious about it and not abandoning it, then... never released another piece of hardware, though they DID put the Zune store on the XBox and promptly forget it was there.

    How long did it take them to say they'd abandoned Games for Windows Live?
