It's a really elegant design, using the nIR tracking camera to monitor the position of internal actuators. If it were done with a more durable device (e.g. plastic injection moulded) then by the time you added the costs of multiple mechanical parts and the assembly process it would be cheaper to use electronic sensors, but for something that is assembled by the end user it's a great idea to minimise costs and use the existing hardware.

I think these look absolutely fantastic! Good on Nintendo for doing something a bit different and for stimulating interest in this sort of thing. The video for the Labo just made me grin from ear to ear :D

Obviously the price is a bit of a stumbling block and you're going to get people saying that $70 for some cardboard is a disgrace. If this ends up at $1 to £1 then I do think it's a bit steep really, but at the same time there's a fair bit more to this than just some cardboard boxes.

    This is brilliant!
And now I find that I really want to go get a Switch and then the Labo kit. Good job Nintendo, good job!

I think this is ace and my daughter will absolutely love it, I won't be loving the price, everything Nintendo is horribly overpriced, but I'll no doubt buy it anyway as I did the switch and its woeful hardware ( controllers that can barely go more than 2 metres from console without dodgy control issues, really only any good as a handheld unless I put the switch in the middle of the room :( ) and expensive software.

You are going to look a bit "special" wearing that robot kit though.
