My 1Ghz T.Bird is cooking a bit with the ****ty coolermaster thing its got on it and the chewing gum style TIM it came with :).

I was just dondering how you guys rate the....

    Akasa Icicle 765 (£5.40)
    Akasa Icicle 785 (£6.20)

Coz there nice and cheep and i can get hold of one easy enough. And id probabley buy some AS3 to go with it :)

Also my mate asked would it be ok with his 1.4 Athlon ?

Ive got an Akasa Icicle 765, for my xp1700, everything is still in their boxes though. So I couldn't give you any performance results
    :sigh:
It said they were rated for the xp's, won't they be good enough for the older amd chips, or do they get hotter? :blah:

The very cheap akasas, while perfectly worthwhile, aren't going to be a million miles in performance from a basic coolermaster. Really isn't worth the effort to upgrade it.

The Taisol 760 would, however, be a worthwhile upgrade.

you really get what you pay for unless you are ripped off. I wouldn't really trust my £150 chip to a £6 heatsink. Would you?

Very good point lazydemon think of it as insurance and don't take the risk Danny. :)

Pick a Heatsink from here that is rated by AMD as suitable for the 1700+ and you can't go wrong :D

www.tekheads.co.uk sell them, well the heatsinks anway. They aren't that loud and you can always change the fan on them.

the stock fan is a delta 5000rpm slimline fan (which is actually VERY quiet).

whilst this has adequate cooling due to the large heastink, i still reccomend a YsTech 60mm Fan which will not only look better ( :D ) but will improve the kooling a bit more.

and for a pic (complete with 60mm grill, spiral wrap and YsTech fan -
