So I've for real got the money to buy a system now, and it comes time to choose a processor. I've got an MSI 650i MB. I plan to do some light overclocking in the future, and I'm basically just doing office tasks with some light image editing, but I'm also going to try out audio production. From what I can tell, the Allendales have lower FSB's and higher clock speed, and the Conroes have higher FSB's and lower clock speeds, and they both have the same amount of usable cache. Now what to choose? The conroes are more expensive. I'm really only looking at the E6300, E6320, E4400, and the E4500. Help a brotha out? Sorry for the noobness. P.S. If my mobo is 1333 FSB, can I still run an 800 FSB processor?
The E6320 has 4MB L2 cache, which is the advantage of choosing it. However, if you want something easier to overclock, the E4400 and E4500 are what you would want. No real point in getting an E6300 at this point as an E6320 is better performing and the E4400 and E4500 are cheaper and better performing. If you want something simple to overclock to high frequencies, go with an Allendale.
Your tasks would benefit from the extra cache, so I suggest going with the 6320, it'll be perfect for a 'mild' overclock.
Alright, thanks very much guys, and now (again... I kinda never got around to building the system last time) I will ask that if someone sees iminient problems with this set up, to please speak up. I only see a prob with the ammount of power the psu outputs if you plan on upgrading plus whats with the dvd burner + dvd rom? Why not just a burner?
Power supply is the only thing; I suggest, if you have $30 more, Corsair VX 450. Probubly the best <$75 psu.
Hmmm, how accurate are those online calculators for power supplies? I was very conservative (chose slightly higher powerconsuming parts) and I should still have an extra 35-50 watts power head room. The dual DVD's are for duplicating discs.
They're not particularly accurate. It's not the wattage, it's the amperage, and that's where that silverstone fails. Pretty badly, no less.
