I'm trying to get some more ambient music, but the electronica. I don't get any names here, it's all comercial, so can you please tell me some names of groups or people doing this kind of music? I already have Aphex Twin and also The Future Sound of London, but I want to get to know some new names.
I'm pretty sure I knew of a group called Electrostatic at one point and they did SOME electronica tracks, but moved away fro it shortly after. If you can fish out some of their stuff, you might like it. Sorry it's not much of a lead.
i listen to loads of electronica soo quick list: Boards of Canada Proem Rick Strom (www.glowdot.com should be able to d/l his albums there) Dialect Telefon Tel Aviv Plaid (bit more up beat) Xela Check glowdot.com's idm radio station its all electronica / idm should give you an idea of some other names
If you havnt heard any Orbital then you neeeeeeed to. Find a song called halcyon thats pretty representative of their early stuff if you want to demo it.
Squarepusher Chaos AD (AFAIK this is Squarepushers alter ego) Omni Trio (more recent stuff is very ambient-ish drum'n'bass, prefer the older stuff myself but hey..) The Dust Brothers
Thank you guys, keep throwing names! I forgot to mention that I already know Orbital and I have lots of their stuff.
The Bug Icons Of The Yukon - www.iconsoftheyukon.co.uk Teflonchild - www.teflonchild.com - This guy pwns. The Non-Stick Kid! Lamb Boards Of Canada DJ Earl Blaize KOMPRESSOR [WARNING: KOMPRESSOR does not dance] Squarepusher (just need to echo what Will said - this dude kicks ass. Great bassist too.) Autechre Machine Made Man Cicatrix Miocene (if you can grab the *.zip of them live...its fantastic...really mellow and ambient) Kai Motta Aesop Rock - so ****ing good. Check out the track Shere Khan. *n
As above ^^ (esp. kid606). I've gone mad on M83 at the moment. Listening to 'Safe' makes me cry... in a good way.
Xela? I've downloaded some stuff from DJ Xela and it's all "party music", jamaican style. Are you sure you didn't get confused?
http://www.learnwithxela.com/ defaintly not party music cds available through www.boomkat.com and various bits get played on dreamscape idm :] EDIT: http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=13064 can listen to track demos there
at the moment im rather enjoying rjd2 and felix da housecat they are both totally different, and im not entirely sure both are strictly considered as electronica, but i hate pigeon holing things, and im sure some clever bunny will correct me
I don't even know what to classify them as, but you should look into Shpongle. They're some kind of electronica, and their music is incredibly unique.
I'm trying all those groups you've recommended me. I'm still getting stuff and I haven't checked every group you've recommended, but I'm doing it little by little. I like Omni Trio, I didn't know this one, and yes, they are into dnb, which I like.
if u like aphex twin u should check out the warp label. oh and tocotronic give it a try some stuff is kinda odd and other is just freaked out yeah dont forget Mr. Scruff u have to hear him for shure
I just bought two really good albums by "GodIsAnAstronaut" Bought the albums on the strength of just the demo tracks they have on their website. Really good ambient music. No vocals. http://www.godisanastronaut.com
