The PSU on my storage server has gone bye bye, a shop local is selling Cooler Master Elite RS500 500W for £35. Any good?

    It'd be running :
    Asus M5A78L-MLX V2
    FX4130
    6x5.25" HDDs
    3x2.5" HDD's
    1XSSD

    Cheers

That would be plenty for what you've got there.

Toyed with getting a cheaper PSU but of a lesser brand but not worth the risk on lesser brands

Old school! Though you could increase capacity by a thousand-fold by replacing them with one cheap 3.5" HDD. :D

FWIW, got a 450w PSU in my 24 bay server and never had an issue. It peaks upto about 300w during spin-up, 150w when all drives are spinning and 180-200w when active. About 60w idle (Xeon E3-1220L v2 + 3x IBM M1015 cards).
