It about turning an Athlon XP Processor into an MP Processor, is MP good? And should I do this mod?

do you have a mobo that takes more then one cpu?
do you hve the need for dual cpu operations?
do you run more then one cpu?
do you have ecc ram to go into this dual mobo?
    if no then no...

a very wise person once said, if it aint broke dont try fixing it!

you could always disable half of your L2 cache and your xp will turn into a duron! :duh: :sigh:

Well, I am planning to get an Athlon XP for my birthday, so I might play around with the CPU, but I could sell it and get some other stuff,

MP's were the model before XP, they ran very hot and overall were better for Dual CPU usage than anything else.

he he he i actually did this (by accident)

i was putting some thermal compound on (my first time ever) and thought there was too much, thinking i could just wipe it off, nope, it smeeared everywhere but the core, so i was like CRAP, but i put some one, put into a mobo, booted it up, works fine, except now it registers as a Athlon MP 1800+ and also the thermal probe is messed, it reads as 50 degrees celsisu, the heatsink is around 30 - 35 in idle.

XP..MP ... Same CPU ...Early models of the XP worked perfectly in a dual CPU board..XP 1800 and 1900..Once AMD noticed people where using them they cut the 3rd L5 bridge on the XP to prevent it's working in a dual CPU board..The mod you found is the fix allowing ANY XP procesor to work in any dual CPU board..

XP's should work, as long as they are the same chip. The MP's were made for systems with 4 processors or more. But then again, I'm not an AMD kid but I know my hardware like a mofo.

Any 2 xp chips of the same famialy (Palimino,Barton ect) will work 1800 and a 1900 for example in a dual as long as u connect the L5..MP chips are for 2 or more processors..Unfortunatly AMD never made a chipset for anything more then 2Cpu for the MP line of processors.....
