Do you know where your browser is taking you?

Miss-spelling a URL is dangerous enough, what with the possibility of accidental *ahem* 'adult' sites croping up on work / college network logs or whilst the significant other or boss is stood behind you... However the only damage this causes is red faces. Until now - virus writers are taking the idea of site typosquatting and using it to download payloads that are more destructive than the average picture of a naked lady. This from eWeek:

A simple misspelling of Google's domain name could lead to a Web surfer's worst nightmare.

In a new twist to the old practice of "typosquatting," virus writers have registered a slight variation of Google Inc.'s popular search-engine site to take advantage of any users who botch the spelling of the google.com URL.

The malicious site, googkle.com, is infested with Trojan droppers, downloaders, backdoors and spyware, and an unsuspecting user only has to visit the page to be at risk of computer hijack attacks, according to a warning from Finnish anti-virus vendor F-Secure Corp.

It's interesting to test how good your browser is secured. Would I dare visit the site with Opera 8.0?

I'd still do a scan, just in case.

But regardless, I'll take your word for it.

<-- Couldn't even raise the site, but confident in Opera 8.

I have deliberately gone to "infested" sites before, just to test Opera. Never had any problems. (Should people who still use IE even be allowed on the same internewt as the rest of us?)
