Last night my PC went pop. While gaming the whole thing shut down and then kicked back into life but with nothing on the screen other than the "no signal" message. At first I thought it was the GPU but on further investigation tonight I fear it might be the CPU. Is there any visual clue other than the CPU idiot light on the motherboard and a blank screen, that it's gone kaput? I've taken it out of its mount but it looks as it should.
Is the CPU light showing a problem? It could be something on the motherboard that went pop tat i stopping the CPU from working.
If it's the same as the recent Asus boards the if the light is on and green it should be working fine, at least it's not stopping it from booting. Are any of the other lights red or off? My board has Q-LED's for CPU, Ram, GPU and Boot device (presume this means hard drives/controllers). Might be worth checking your manual to see if it is the same.
His CPU has no GPU part. That won't work. What happened? Did it just turn off and turn back on? I'd remove the GPU and try another if at all possible.
Here is what I would do. 1a) have a good sniff, any electrical comp burning smells? 1b) Reset the bios 2) strip machine. 3) Start with just mobo, psu, gput single stick of ram outside the case 4) start swapping things until I isolate what it could be. I suspect gpu / psu, though you haven't mentioned if your cpu was overclocker at all
Thanks for the advice guys. I stripped the rig, cleaned all the crap out (note to self, clean the interior more often) cleaned the old tim and remounted everything. I consulted the mobo manual and if the post state led's are lit there's a problem with that component. It appears that the cpu is goosed.
