Shouldn't the end of the first sentence read "...is that Apple is now running a standard, open x86 architecture", not Intel..?

It wont be long before someone cracks the x86 Mac to work on other platforms. There will be no driver support, but it will happen.

The problem I see is that if MacTel let's Windows dual boot people might be willing to just use what they are used to if they switch to Mac, it'll just be another (expensive) PC. But if Apple let's people install OS X on normal machines then it'll be advantageous. Of course then no one would buy Apple hardware, well except for the zealots.

i read this and thought, hmm so there trying to let iPod style shoppers (people who don't bother to look at quality of hardware, they just like adverts to tell them whats good) run windows. Because lets be honest here mac OS X is just a messed with BSD, which granted is much better than linux, is certainly not as good as Open/Net/Free BSD.

Problem is, i know some people who will be buying the apple hardware because its become a fassion statement in north london. At least this way they can use a good OS thou.

so mac get intel and gets faster, dual boot will probably prove to those who can set it up (as they will be technically minded anyway) that apart from a skin there is really ******** all difference between Mac OS and Windows as to functionality.

you're not actually used either have you?

I'd of let you off if you'd sed MAC OS and BSD. But you didn't.
What it will show, is how much slower mac os is (as its built on BSD). But people hate been told that, its like the IIS6 with asp.net is faster than anything you can get for unix people hate been told that. Then when you say php, with phlanger on IIS is considerably faster than zend optimized. They get all sulky.

When you tell a mac os person, show them how much slower their OS is, say running some macromedia stuff (which i as a programmer never have found any real use, but i do try to stay away from the HTML world). They will just make up some ****.

Awww...that's a shame. Dual booting, to me, is much less useful than the OS itself. Mac OS would do wonders on a more powerful platform, but I would not spend the extra money to get less system.

Basically, my PC runs BSD/Unix just fine if I want it to. I'd love the nice preconfiguration of Mac OS, but...maybe I want to run Tiger on an A64? I wish mac would just sell their OS separately and give up on this stupid hardware idea altogether...They could do fine in the worlds of cases, OS, and peripherals.

What microsoft needs to do is when the MacTel's go production is get a copy of Virtual PC going that doesn't use emulation.

Because it would be running on native x86 system, it should run just as fast. If they can get it to work somehow like X11 does in OSX, then they could really sell that to everyone.

Need that one app that only works in windows? Why dualboot, just pop this open and let it take over for a while. Apple would prob be all for it too since it would help drive sales.

btw, its funny how microsoft.com doesn't look good in FF, but microsoft.com/mac looks fine :D I think they are trying to say something :D
