All prices are in US, this is probably exactly what I'd get if I had nothing to start with, no monitor, speakers, etc.

    Abit AI7 $100
    Pentium 4 Socket 478 3.0Ghz $179
    Mushkin 1GB Dual Channel PC3200 $173
    WD 120GB 7200RPM $75
    ATI 9800 Pro 256MB $265
    Lian Li PC-7 $79
    Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU $99
    Lite-On 8X Dual Layer 8x DVD+RW $66
    19" .21mm 1600x1200 @ 75mhz max res $169

If you really want good speakers, this will put you over the top, but:
    Logitech Z-680s $219

Total without speakers: $1205 (I assume total shipping will be around $100)
    Total with speakers: $1424
