I've never bought a console before, so I would like some suggestions on which console to get which has motion control and the best motion control games for it. I know all three: nintendo, xbox 360, ps3 has some sort of motion control. I am not sure about the games though. I've tried wii 3 times, kinect once, and haven't tried ps3's offering at all.

    Criteria:
Able to multiplayer (at least two people) at the same time. I heard that xbox kinect game like dance central is one player at a time.
Fun for the family (where people actually move about and not just mashing buttons) with good games too. More towards party games.
Has a small footprint. Right now I have about 2.2m square living room with free space. Its very tight. I might be able to move the couch to get an extra 1m in distance to the TV.
Does not disturb neighbours below. I'm on the second floor, so something like DDR will definitely annoy people below especially when you are jumping at night.
Console longevity-not something that is going obsolete anytime soon.

Any suggestions on the hardware (which specific model and types controllers) and games I should get for that hardware?

ive recently bought the xbox kinect and it does need quite abit of space, the motion sensing is pretty good though and preforms well, though the games are quite weak at the moment, nothing exciting out just wii style games

I don't want it myself. But then motion control looks neat. Until Microsoft gets kinect ready for Windows with games, which is some time away-I might as well get something...

I would go for the Wii - we have had some serious fun here with four people prancing around a relatively smal area (too small for Kinect to work). It doesn't really matter that the graphics are not next gen - it's the playing that's fun.

We actually play Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort the most (with the latter you'll need the advanced motion controller addon which plugs into the end of a normal controller). The other one we play is Raving Rabbids TV Party - a bunch of stupid games with dancing - it's hard to explain, you have to play it!

What I like about the Wii is that it works in a relatively confined space - obviously if you have four adults standing up there will be a bit of bumping - but that's all part of the social thing I thing. That's it really as long as there is space for you to stand, the Wii will work.

I've played just dance. It was quite nice even though I had acute back pain during that time I resorted to "cheating" by just moving my fingers.

If I am not mistaken PS3 also is similar in the wii's setup, has bluray capability and better graphics. Though not sure about the game though.

Also heard about this Dolphin emulator http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/
Looks neat-smaller footprint, just buy the controls and game and away. Anyone has thoughts about this?

The emulator isn't very stable (and a bit of a legal grey area).

Out of the Three I'd recommend the Wii as well, the kinect requires quite a lot of space, and is seriously lacking in games at the moment. And the ps3 Move is even worse.

As for Games, the warioware games are always fun, as are the mario party ones.

The Dolphin looks interesting, but I don't see the point really. You still have to buy the games and the controllers. I would say that for most people, the PC is not in a space that is readily gathered around by four people, and also the screen tends to be smaller than the TV. Also, Wii games are not really about the graphics, but about the gameplay - it really does not matter when you are playing.

I would say that the PS Move is the closest to the Wii - I have used it for a day (my nephew has one) and it plays well. If you were looking to buy a blu-ray player anyway, then this might be the route to take. The PS3 is considerably more expensive than the Wii and has lest 'Move' compatible games. Games for the PS3 also tend to retail about a tenner more.

I have a high-end PC, a PS3, and Xbox 360 and a Wii by the way - they are all good for their own things. The Wii is what gets played at a party though! It is much easier to convince non games ploaying people to have a go at the Wii than it would with anything else (although the Move and Kinect would also fall into this category).

I'd go for the wii if you're limited on space. I've tried out my friends ps move and it also required a reasonable amount of space, plus there are very few games for it. the few games I did try were quite fun though.

I think the wii will also ne the cheapest solution too...

Out of em all - I think the xbox kinect prob has the best motion atm - but im tempted to say the wii has better for larger groups (I think kinect can only do 2 people?)

I hear the graphics on wii are worse compared to xbox and ps3. Any suggestions on the bundles? I see few of them at amazon.

Having played all 3 i would have to say PS3 Move. Its way way more accurate than WiiMotion and Kinect. I will agree that Kinect is loads of fun, really it is, but the amount of space required is extremely restrictive. PS Move has the fun and silly sports games like the Wii does (Frisbee Golf,Bocce and Gladiator Duel are awesome fun!) but you also get the fact that its a blu-ray player, good media player and has access to all the other titles you would expect. Plus it can accomodate 4 Move players happily although space once again becomes a premium when there's 4 people waving their arms about lol

If, however you already have things which cover the bonuses of a PS3 then i'd have to say the Wii, if only for Bowling.

I see the move has this two controllers and a docking station. I saw at tesco just now the charging dock is £20. Can't you just charge your battery normally? Also, do you need those two thing. I see one lolipop and one controller.

My younger brother who has a Xbox 360, Wii, Ps3, PS2, Gamegear, DS, PSP, gamecube, told me to go with a PS3 though, being an older brother-I'm a bit skeptical of what he says.

You need one lollipop per person for the PS Move, plus it comes with a camera to stick on your TV. The included game is a lot of fun, but there are really no other games that support it (apart from maybe Tiger Woods golf?)

Now, its 50-50 ps3-wii. No idea which one to get yet. Ps3 is a bit pricey, and lack of content though-has a bluray player, but I don't watch movies. Have never bought/borrowed a bluray disk in my entire life

No charging dock is neccessary. PS3 controllers (both standard and move) come with a USB-miniUSB for charging them directly from the console.

You only really need the one wand but some games work better with two (e.g. archery, swordfighting).

To be honest its pretty much down to exactly what you want and cost. I, personally, and a thrifty S.O.B. and can't bear the thought of forking out the cost of a Wii when that is literally all it is, a Wii. The PS3 Move does everything the Wii can do and do it better with the only drawback currently being lack of titles, but playing with a group the main sports game will keep you sorted for weeks anyway just like Wii Sports did/does.

I had a Wii on release day and got shot of it three months later because in that time the only good game other than Wii Sports was Twilight Princess. One good game in three months does not a favourable console make. Even now the only really good games for Wii are Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Twilight Princess lol.

I sound very anti-Wii, i'm not. If you are only looking for silly motion controller fun with a group then by all means the Wii with Sports and Sports Resort is an excellent option but i can't see the outlay justified by two games and literally nothing else.

Even if you're not a big movie watcher the first experience of Blu-Ray (provided the TV is 1080p) is an eye-opener.

    So to sum up:
Wii Bundle- £170ish, 2 games, large-ish catalogue of generally pants games, that is all (can't even play DVD)
PS3 Move Bundle - £240-£260 (320gb console), 1 game (for now), Blu-Ray player, good media player, large catalogue of other good games.

I've got the PS3 Move. It really isn't worth it at this stage. It's going the way of the Playstation Eye at the moment. A few games out but nothing amazing. Same goes for the Kinect. If you really want decent motion control, as many have suggested Wii is the way to go definitely. As the console's sole selling point is the motion control aspect you know that they will constantly be bringing out games for and will have the best support. I can see the Kinect and the Move pretty much disappearing into nothing. Although the Kinect may have the most promise of the two. Another issue with the Kinect though is definitely the price tag - entirely not worth it at this moment in time.
