I think you guys need to go to spec savers..... The wall they where showing had some great tessellation detail , not the usual flat wall you normally get in games.
Dodgy camera from the back of a room filming a projector =/= playing it sitting a couple of feet from my monitor. I honestly think everyone is expecting a little too much from the DX11 patch, and Crytek themselves seem to be overselling it. I mean, I haven't been 'blown away' by any DX11 game yet, and Crysis 1 looked better than Crysis 2 even in DX9 mode. The actual improvements will be very small IMO.
You can sort of see that there is an improvement there, but no way of gauging exactly how it will look from this video.
The controversy over the omission of DX11 from Crysis 2 was a matter of principle, fuelled by people foolishly expecting Crytek to push the bar technologically with the sequel as they did with the first, despite the sequel's pandering to the consoles. Since the initial controversy, the promise of DX11 for Crysis 2 has been blown up into some sort of god feature and Crytek are quite smartly playing it up as if it will actually make a huge difference to the game's visuals and fix everything that makes the game shite for many people; maintaining undeserved hype in the PC release. It won't. The differences will be minimal, even on your own screen - And if you thought Crysis 2 was shite without DX11 you'll think it's shite with DX11, too. It'll just have a few extra minor visual features tacked on so that they can tick the DX11 box when marketing the game to the people who play/benchmark Crysis for the visuals.
The game has been released for... what, 2 months now? DX11 update 2 months after the game was released? Riiiigght. [Disregard update, Aquire pre-order of BF3 from ZiiPstore]
Yeah, given how late they are with it and that it wasn't in the leaked version either, I think it's pretty obvious they didn't even start working on the DX11 features until after the game had shipped. This is unforgivable IMO since they repeatedly stated it would feature DX11 - I expect this at launch, not several months later when it suits them. Honestly, some of the things developers think they can get away with these days... It was built ground-up to be a DX9 game because it was multi-platform, so any other tacked-on additions will be just that, not a complete overhaul like some are expecting.
I'll take a peek at it when they release the patch, but I doubt I will ever summon up the enthusiasm to actually finish the game. I just didn't think it was very good and no matter how much spit and polish you shine it up with, it still will just be an average shooter.
When I played (and didn't bother to finish) Crysis 2, I wasn't a fan of the gameplay itself. Will give it another shot though with DX11 - it does look pretty good.
patch 1.8 has changed a few things in SP for the better, it's growing on me despite coming nowhere near the original
Same. I think a lot of people slammed it because of the hype, and no game could live up to that much hype. Sure, the first one and Warhead were better looking, and arguably just a bit better anyway, but at least this one didn't suddenly become poor when fighting the alien things, unlike C1. Even though it's worse than C1+CW, it is still a good game, just its prequels were very good games. On the other hand, I was pretty pissed off at Crytek for failing to bring DX11, despite it being a promised feature, then saying it'll be patched, and then finishing off by saying that there won't be DX11 at all. I think they had to backtrack on that, due to the response, but it won't have won them many friends, whereas they had tons of pre-orders for C2 because of their previous efforts. Now on PC, for any future game, many will wait until it's released and reviews are out before putting any cash into it.
