Having to resurrect an old thread ... woke up this morning to find one of my Folding PCs was off, with no signs of being able to restart Have you ever smelt the slight oder of over-warm PCB? Well, I took both GTX 1070's out, and popped in a GTX 970 - everything worked fine ... So, I put one 1070 back on its own - all fine. Put the second one in on its own and ... saw a small spark inside the card Its been Folding 24/7 since October 2017 - and looks like it has stepped down to be replaced by an RTX 3000 card - shame I still can't find any suitably priced ones
Definitely out of warranty then?! Like you, still can't find a RTX 3000 at a reasonable price. BTW, since the issue with some servers not crediting wu's some months ago but now seem to be working, my daily average has dropped by approx. 700k. Have you had similar issues? Has the credit given per wu dropped or have I a build up of dust or cooling issue etc?
Definitely out of warranty! I had a massive points spike on the 16th August (which I put down to the system catching up with credits) but, other than that, I've not seen any noticeable drop. There are often tweaks to the credits, but they are project specific.
Another GPU down ... one of my RTX 2070's has failed. A bit depressing, as getting any sort of decent GPU replacement seems impossible at the moment (at sane prices).
The side costs of Folding (apart from electricity!) .... Power went out while I was gaming the last night ... strong smell of PCB coming from the hall where two of my Folding machines live. Pinned it down to one of the Seasonic PSUs, which I took apart this morning ... to find a brown patch under the board and some melted PCB components .
Thanks for the offer The PSU is currently pending an RMA with Seasonic, as it is still under warranty.
Well I just replaced the gpu's in the folding rig; 3090 / 1080ti, with a 5080 FE. Will recoup some money back on the 3090 at cex and keep the 1080Ti as an emergency card. Surprised at the power draw at the socket; 320w. So possibly £60 a month to run. That is about half the power consumption of the 3090 and 1080Ti together. Should average 20m PPD, but we shall see. Running on Linux. Might be tempted to turn the 5090 back on when I get my new contract.
