Long story short, a small object flew into my television last night on accident (seriously). It lacked such force and was such a small object that I thought nothing of it. Well, I woke up this morning and turned on my TV to watch some Wire and this is what I saw/see...

This is what the actual damage looks like...

I'm sure it's probably toast but figured it was worth asking you all first. I know next to nothing about LCD screens so I don't know if the actual glass is broken or if that immensely distorted screen could just be from the plastic. I just don't understand how that tiny (I suppose that's subjective) damage could ruin the entire screen!

Is the TV trash now, basically?

I removed the IMG tags so people can see your pics, and yeah the TV is toast.

I'd guess the "long story short" is a BB gun or something similar ;)

    Yes it's broke
Don't try to con by getting house insurance and cancelling, they're not stupid

If you have insurance already, ring them and see if you're covered
If not, ebay it or if you're ballsy enough see if there's a working LCD on ebay replace your screen

Blame it on Sharp and get them to exchange your screen. Say you where just watching it and the screen decides to implode at that point for no apparent reason. If its out of warranty your also out of luck.

Seriously though, that does look well and truly dead. I am not sure if that could be repaired but perhaps its possible? You might be able to take it somewhere and get the screen replaced for a cost. Then again thats probs going to cost you close to the cost of the TV anyway.

+1 to this. Unless your old one is encrusted with diamonds, can cook breakfast and can change the pron channel just before the wife walks in, then it's far easier to just get a new one.

My money is on a Wiimote impact...

It's cracked the LCD panel, and seeing as these are 80-90% of the price of a TV all you can do is replace it. I'm not even sure if insurance will cover it as if it is a Wiimote it specifically says to use the wrist band to stop this from happening...

Insurance companies rarely check small claims considering they get 1,00,00 + a day I would think
