    Hi All

I currently have a 750 GB Hard drive and I would like to back this up using a Disk Image.

    Two questions I have are:
    1) Which software (open source would be great) do you recommend ?
    2) What size would the Disk Image be ?

    Thanks All

I look forward to your replies :)

Don't use free software myself but if you wanted to pay for something I would recommend Acronis True image, its always been easy and trouble free, it seems lightweight enough (well it doesn't slow everything to a halt when it runs anyway) and I have restored from it after a failure so know it does work.

It is paid for but sometimes you do get value for these things.

If you have a seagate or maxtor harddrive you can download segate Diskwizard which is free and is actually Acronis True Image.
But has to detect a segate or maxtor device connected to the system to work.

I use it all the time for cloning I just connect a seagate harddrive and do the clone from a samsung to another samsung drive and then disconnect the segate.

    Works great.

I use Acronis. The image size depends on the used space on the partition and not the overall size. My initial Windows 7 backup was 3.5GB.

I had an old Maxtor external HDD lying about - connected it up - downloaded. Now the proud owner of a "free" copy of Acronis True Image. Thanks Bumsrush.
