Theres also the sometimes apalling throttle lag.

It's pretty much Dirt 2, in F1 cars with lots of annoying bugs.

    Bring back F1 GP4

Buggier than a rotting rainforest log. Considering they've been working on this game for over 2 years, it's more than a bit disappointing.

    Hey Mr Brown!

Does this mean we will be getting more unofficial PC Zone reviews? :)

PC Zone, you know, that PC magazine that was so, so influential (according to the BBC, at least) yet somehow didn't manage to stay in business?

You're right, the score does seem a litle high if the bugs are as game breaking as they've been made out to be.

On the other hand, if the reviewer didn't find them game breaking, then it looks like it's worthy of the score.

Plus, Bit-Tech is one website you can't accuse of only using the top few scores. I saw a 3 on here not that long ago.

I must admit that this game is much better than I thought it was going to be, pit stops adds more strategy and take on game entirely. For me this is surprise of the year.

Formula 1 is totally overrated imho. It's nice to watch on TV for the circus around it, but the races themselves are totally boring.

GT/WTCC cars are much more interesting as there's way more action going on during a race.

    ---

Only a month left until we can finally get our hands Gran Turismo 5.

    Nuff said.

Likewise - the races are fun (especially since you need to be concentrating all the time).

We never just use the top few numbers. We also never rush to judgement (hence this review coming so long after release, compared to other sites). I had a discussion with David before we published the review and we agreed that, while F1 is buggy, that doesn't mean it isn't good. It's fun, and the MP is great. The bugs stop it from becoming anything more than it is, but the fun factor stops it being any less.

agree, and don't forget my personal favourite: Rally.

the game's limited race strategy are fun, just wish there's a way to fast forward time while AI drives the car around, you are the team engineer managing strategy. wait, how about a game called "F1 Engineer"? FIFA Manager games are pretty popular

Just thought i'd point out that the timings *are* wrong in the race as well. For a repeatable scenario, run a race weekend, make sure you're on pole (with the ai difficulty on medium) and drive away into the distance on the first lap. The AI will have a lap time that's about 2 seconds faster than you - it does't take into account the standing start.

Doesn't bother me too much in that it doesn't affect the result though why they didn't just time them like any other game is beyond me. Was there not a video in the other thread (with a guy who sounds like Lewis Hamilton strangely) demonstrating this where Webbers fastest lap was the first.

There is no problem in the race, but there's a big problem in qualifying. It's all to do with the variable weather system. If it starts raining right as the qualifying session begins, you can bang in a lap before it gets really wet - but when the track's just damp the computer treats the AI as being on a wet track - really slow laps follow and you get pole easily.

The lack of race and championship win celebrations kind of makes the whole thing feel a bit like a waste of time at times.
You win a race and all you get is your mechanics voice saying well done, where's the champagne and trophy's?
You would expect at the very least some sort of celebration scene or fmv for winning the championship but you get nothing, yet they include the pointless interviews why?
The whole reputation thing seems a bit dumb as well, I can see what they've tried to do but if you won your first championship in a Lotus then starting your second season in a better car is only going to make life easier for you.

Some BS just went down in my last SP race. I was flat out, no mistakes from pole and pulled away to give myself a massive lead. I went in the pits first came out in 6th and saw cars 2 to 5 go in the pit. Button didn't pit!

I would like to see more detailed reviews, even if we have less reviews overall.

I remember reviews used to be great, and would talk about graphics options, how the game looked and frame rates with different set ups etc.

This fit in with the 'techie' nature of the site. Game reviews are now dissapointing in their brevity. Multi platform reviews are generic with no mention of pc specific issues.

Trying not to be too negative, but personally think things have been going downhill a bit recently on this front.

Of course its personal taste, more updates versus more detailed reviews etc. An editorial decision more than a quality issue, but it's a turn off for me.

I take your comments on board, but I don't think the game reviews have changed that much other than us taking out the graphics options. If anything, they've got better as I (in-house) have learned more and we've begun working with more writers. We still look at things from a more detailed and techie angle than most games sites and we still do a game tweak guide in every issue of the mag. The reason we cut the graphical stuff from the game reviews online was something I consulted the community about beforehand and was something everyone seemed in favour of.
