i have 3 hard drives in my PC
    a primary 1 TB HDD
a 1.5 TB HDD for storage
and another 1 TB HDD that is ment to be the clone of the primary

right now i am hearing a ticking sound coming from one of them

does anyone have any advise on how to tell which one is ticking?

Use the old mechanics trick, press a screwdriver upto the casing of each drive then press you ear to the butt of the screw driver, obviously being carefully not to accidentally short anything out.

Great idea! But unless the drives are in separate cages or otherwise physically isolated from eachother it'd be hard to tell the source of the noise.

If you're confident you can do this without shorting anything out I'd say this could definitely be a good place to start, then try Big_Malc's suggestion to confirm which drive is failing.

Also when you disconnect the drive(s) in question make sure you unplug the power too since a drive will still turn itself on even if there isn't a data connection.
