Bought some gear the other day Intel Core i5 3570K s1155 Asus Maximus V GENE Z77 MoBo but I just realised the memory is dual channel DDR3 1.65V. Should I have got 1.5V RAM instead? It has not been delivered yet so I can't test it. I am just worried in-case I have to go thru the palaver of sending it back to Scan.
1.65 ram can usually be run at 1.5 anyway just set the voltages. And run mem test if you get no errors all is well.
Thanks Rollo, I will try that if I am not entirely happy with the way the build is performing with ram running @ 1.65v.
max recommended is actually 1.575v.....as said 1.65v will normally run fine at 1.5v but if not you can bump it to 1.575v and still be within intel spec I would have no problems running it at 1.6v if needs be, its only just out of spec. haha anyone with a K range CPU with sooner or later be running it out of spec anyway.
How does one know what the max voltage for the ram is? I'm looking at the specs for the gene v and it says nothing about voltage.
thats because virtually all ram companys ignore intel and have done for years. intels max recommend ram on ivy bridge is 1.575vcore sandybridge 1.5v i7900 series was 1.5v as well. Most ram modules were supplied as xmp 1.65 vcore ram chips. To actually get ram that meets intel spec cost a lot of extra money when ram prices were pretty high. These days with ram prices so low the cost difference is tiny.
