    What's the common tool that everyone uses to measure drive lifetime, usage etc?

    I see lots of people quoting drive stats but I can't seem to find an open source or generic tool to provide these.

    CrystalDiskInfo? Have to confess that I've not used it myself for a few years, but I recall it being the go-to back in the day.

    CrystalDisk, though for SSDs, the manufacturer's utility may give you bonus info.
