So the Witcher 2 preorder on gog.com comes with a free game (among many other things) and since i've never been much of an RPG player i'll need you guys to help me pick from these: Beyond Divinity or Divine Divinity or Gothic 2 gold or Realms of Arkania 1+2 or Realms of Arkania 3 Not exactly sure why but i seem to recall that i don't like Gothic. The main thing i'm looking for is an engaging story and a decent art direction, in this genre i let gameplay take a back seat. So, what do you guys think?
out of those i would probably go with beyond divinity. it fits your criteria, and is the least dated of the options. the game play has an interesting dual character thing. the first one is also good, but i felt the 2nd one was a little more polished. i didn't like gothic either. consisted almost entirely of fetch quests and a terrible combat system.
I doubt there is Ultima series in GOG, but try Ultima VII: the black Gate gameplay overall the best I ever played. Storywise it is definitly PS: Torment
Would try and get hold of baulders gate if i was you, first game i ever played and one of my favorites
I'd consider Beyond Divinity a disappointment compared to Divine Divinity (due to an overly-linear plot, problematic game mechanics and some laughably awful voice acting) and would only suggest it if you had no other choice. Divine Divinity scores better in giving you freedom to roam (once you've finished the quests in the starting village) and lots of quests to accomplish. It tends towards click-fest-combat but hostiles don't respawn and you can just hold the Ctrl key down to keep hitting the closest nasty. I'd suggest that would be your best choice unless you fancy something resembling Might-and-Magic in which case Arkania would be a better bet (not got round to playing these myself yet though). Yes, Baldur's Gate and Planescape are better but they're not included in GOG's Witcher 2 pre-order bonus.
