Thanks Wayneeboy, I got it working, I had to shorten the cables betwwen the LCD and Controller, Now I have it working is GREAT !!!! Thanks for all youe help.
Waynneboy, do you have the eagle files/layout for the pcb and parts list for the board you designed (on page 18, the one with no buzzer), that i could have a copy of ? I would love to make another board !
hi there , trying to build this awsome proyect
already got it on a breadboard , my pc assings a port
everything seems to be working fine but then when i open lcdsmartie
i get this "failed to open device : DLL Initialize error : Matrix.dll Exception .."
using 4mhz , 22pf , and 220nf cap/crystal
I get "failed to open device : DLL Initialize error : Matrix.dll Exception .." if I have smartie set to the wrong com port
mmm my pic gives me a comm5 , so i assing it to lcd smartie
i also moved serial port thing on bios , and set it to EEP
read somewhere it makes some things easier
anything else i need to set? maybe reinstall drivers or something
try vista driver?
currently using win xp sp3
you could always try downloading ane unzipping smartie again, I did after having this error. Also have device manager open, when you plug you lcd in, then you will be able to double check com port.
What drivers did you install ?
Do you have your lcd on serial or usb ?
ima try reinstalling driver and smartie , it could work
installed driver on first page , for win xp
umm its on usb with my pic18f2550
edit: same problem reinstalled smartie and driver
ima try with another lcd , maybe mine is dead
even tho it shows rows when i turn it on
Yeah, Maybe a dead screen, I do have one, 16x2, that when connected, shows a row of blocks on line one but it is like smartie cannot find the screen and shows that error
yah actually my lcd is 16x2
ima try with another one
also ima write a lil code to test it
to show something with a pic76f84
edit it was my lcd got itworking now
thanks for the help and theproyect
sry for double post but can someone send me the C code , so i can add more buttons plz?
my mail email@example.com
Funny so many people having a problem with the COM port recently, because I kinda got frustrated with COM ports changing and stuff like that. I made a special driver for LCD Smartie that finds the right port by itself. It looks for a device in Windows with a matching VID and PID (vendor and product ID) and binds to that. I made it in particular for the VID and PID of my version of USB2LCD, but it could be easily adapter to look for the Microchip port (VID=04D8, PID=000A). It also produces slightly better error messages when something does go wrong (like the "COM port is in probably in use" instead of just a generic "Cannot connect").
If you want to try and make a DLL display driver for your display, the code can be found at http://www.coderforlife.com/projects/lcd/lcd-smartie-display.zip
It is a Visual C++ Project. You only have to change one line to change which display it looks for. The display must support the Matrix DLL normally.
I have been looking or a solution like this for months, I am very surprised it was available for years!!!
I have a really tiny eadip204b 4x20 display, based on KS0073 controller. I was wondering whether this circuit will be compatible or not, as KS0073 should be hitachi-compatible.
I have started this project myself. Thaks to everyone that posted.
I have some problems with config bits of PIC18F2550.
I am using winpic software, is anyone able to give me a screenshot of his right settings?
I have used only PIC12F629 until now with doesn't require any settings regarding config bits.
I have read some posts, also loked at required programmer config posted by ch424 at the begining at this thread, can't figure out.
Could someone please advise me on how to solder a usb cable straight to the pcb, what colour on usb cable to which usb connections on pcb.
