come on the last post was over a year old..

EDIT: didn't notice the question at first read. The LCD/VFD displays are just connected to either LPT or USB-port and then used with easy-to-use software such as LCDsmartie. Dunno what defyant used, but I've used that one.

Chief, you just bumped a 1 1/2 year old thread to ask a question about serial LCDs.
If you want to learn about serial LCD displays check http://www.matrixorbital.com/
Any HD44780 based LCD display will be fairly easy to interface with a computer.

Yeah i know, but i like this dude's work & i can't stopped myself to appreciate it.Anyways thanks for the info about the LCD.But one more thing, about those LED lined up on a panel & they display rolling text like those which shows time, temperature, humidity etc. Like one of those in share markets?

What leds are you talking about? The display is the whole thing. It's one with 2*20 characters (each containing a number of PIXELS). Then there's this software that tells the display what to show. And yes, these displays are sold widely, the best and most used ones are Matrix Orbitals that you can see and order from www.matrixorbital.com like Captain Slug said.

Those are not available in small enough sizes or in segment displays that would be usable in case modification projects. VFDs and LCDs based on the HD44780 are your only ready-made options.

    Another thread survival story :hehe:

Actually I think it's a good thing that someone once in a while bumps up an old project. If they were amazing then and the chances are that they are amazing now, so I don't see any particular harm in doing this.

After all, there are a lot of new people who just have found these forums and necessarily don't have the energy to browse trough 30+ pages looking at every single project log. In fact I think there could be one project log/month to be bumped up by the mods or even linked to the front page. This way we could all have a look at the "good ol' mods" that have been buried by the newer ones.

    Anyone with me on this?

    Janne

It would definitely be preferable to them being bumped with really stupid questions.

Yeah, I agree with you Janne. This is a very good mod, and in a way it did deserve to be revived, but I daresay I do hate it when someone revives a seemingly crap mod. :p

rofl! That pretty much defines bumping.

There has to be some better way to commemorate old (good) mods besides bumping them out of their timeframe.
