I'm using a Hauppauge Nova-t Internal PCI card, which supports freeview. I'm using my PC monitor to watch stuff on, so I know the type of cabling i'm using is not effecting my picture quality. What i'm wondering, is whether there is anything in MCE that i can change to reduce the amount of mpeg artifacts showing? I've already made registry change to the bits per second it uses to record, but this obviously doesn't affect the live signal. Does anyone else have this image quality problem? I'll be getting a new roof-top arial soon, so this might fix the problem. I'll put up a sample soon.
You'll get poor image quality looking like mpeg artifacts when the signal is insufficient. Replacing your aerial with an exterior aerial should solve your problems.
A booster might help or infact make it worse but it might be cheaper to try than a new aerial. Also if you do go the new aerial root make sure you get decent cable too CT100 or similar (http://www.wrightsaerials.tv/coaxialcablescreening.html)
I'm thinking it's the aerial. The arial itself is in the attic, but for some reason it gets terrible signal quality without a booster (which i am currently using). I don't suppose a kind bit-tech member will send a sample of good freeview coverage in MCE (possibly using nVidia Purevideo)?
its not the best grab as you can see the next frame just coming in (the line around lisa's head) but it will do.
dom_ I get that frame blur, it can also be described as if fps had dropped well below 30. It very noticeable on Simpson episodes, I just dont know why. Some programs I end up switching back to my freeview set top box. I have a feeling it could well be something to do with either my TV card (Black Gold MCE) and or my GFX card (FX 5200 128MB, Using VGA connection). Can anyone shed some light on this?
The blur can often occur if your signal is too strong. If you have a variable boost on your signal amplifier then try turning it down a bit.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I've finally cracked it. The blurred picture was due to the poor codec I was using (Cyberlink PowerDVD 6), changed over to nVidia's PureVideo and everything was cured. No blur, moving images are now very sharp. I hope this helps other people.
