    Hi

What is causing the noise that comes from the pc (High pitched whistle) when my mouse is used on the net? If i click on a link etc the noise goes for a bit and then it comes back!!!

It is a NON USB Mouse.

Is it via speakers? If so, mute "phone" in advanced sound.

I once had it where the PSU fan would spin down a bit whenever I used the mouse wheel. Only a new PSU fixed it.

As TMM said, it's from vibrating toroids apparently, my computer does it - in fact, when it's doing the fast fourier transform on SETI, it sounds like those cicadas that your can hear on holiday. Very soothing. :)

My TFT sorta two tone screaches all the time at me. Well annoying but I don't wanna open it up to fix it :sigh:

Been told it's due to a noisy inverter. Is it possible to use good 'goop' to reduce it or will the high voltage just kill me?

I've always noticed how I can hear my CD-ROM drive (LiteOn CD-RW drive) spinning a disc/whirring THROUGH my headphones. I always though it was just a technical hitch that I could do nothing about till reading about these "vibrating toroids" you guys speak of. :D

I had the exact same problem, replaced the PSU and it went away. But after 1 week my new PSU got it too, although more high-pitched. And then i bought the logitech cordless desktop lx700. You won`t believe this one: Some times, on some web-pages, if i use the scrollwheel on the mouse, i get a ticking sound coming from INSIDE the computer, it`s the same sound as the the scroll wheel makes, only higher. Totally psycho

About that thing about the PSU and the scroll, it also happens to me, BUT only when I'm using WinXP, when I use SuSE I get no noise.
Weird, strange, liar? Call it however you want, but it's true.
