I saw this on XS and figured I'd share since it's pretty funny http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/03/05/newegg_selling_fake_intel_cpus http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636484
Ah i dont know, newegg are being cool about it; I bet any customers who are effected will get a discount to keep them happy.
Sure, but a discount doesn't really help you at the moment when you're building the rig and find a piece of styrofoam and a printed CPU in the box
I can see it now "New i7 cpu doesn't fit" Guys I'm trying to put my new cpu in but it just doesn't fit, the pins are broken or something? Help pl0x
You may well laugh, but apparently someone has been stupid enough to try it before: http://www.bit-tech.net/blog/2009/09/23/many-a-p55-motherboard/ Fun factoid of the day: that is the highest-ranked result for a Google search of "cake in CPU socket".
One would assume so, yes. I laughed, but am entirely unsurprised to hear that it was simply a mistake, rather than a disgruntled employee or something.
Also the websites ([H]ardOCP and another that picked up on it) are getting letters from D&H distributors lawyers for giving them bad press Linky
People assume that these are far eastern knockoffs, but I'm pretty sure these were made in Stalag Luft III. The heatsink made of soap is a dead giveaway. The real ones are probably propping up a tunnel somewhere.
