Also they want to know where im migrating to and i said Nildram the reason was P2P throttling, the guy sounded like he didnt even know what i meant.

That's only on their cheapo product which, as they say, isn't suitable to leechers. Besides off-peak traffic won't be counted at all.

Indeed, PlusNet have been putting more and more limits on downloads for months, now it's rediculous.

I'm gonna pay the extra £4-5 to Eclipse and give PlusNet the finger next week.

Well I'm now connected to Nildram, just one day so far and no throttling on P2P ports, so I can now download without encryption (which helped a bit on popular torrents when with Pipex)
Nildram also have a much better customer interface on their site, with full usage details available, so you can see when you are getting close to the peak time cap.

And when my exchange gets switched on to ADSL max (supposed to be at the end of this month) I get upgraded straight to 8meg.

Yer im in the same boat as yoda, as i just started my Nildram service on monday..but allready i ran into probs. When i first connected my speed came up as 512k, which was strange as im paying for a 2meg service but after some phoning arround to Nildram(thank god for a 0800 number) it seems that BT have limited my speed to 512k as theres alot of noise on my line(yet im 5mis drive away from the exchange  ) :wallbash: :wallbash: this was the exact same problem i had with pipex when they game me my full speed back in the day my line woul have probs and drop the connection constantly.

So after talking with the technicial guy he said to call customer services and tell them to make BT regrade my line to 1meg....i dont care if i dnt get 2meg connection but 512k is slow by todays standards and even when i did have probs with pipex back in the day atlest i had a 1meg connection.

Also good news is that no port throttling on emule, need to try bittorrent tho.
    A good service overall.

Only people on the xtreme4 realm are effected atm, but it is to be rolled out across the whole pipex network soon.

ahhh i'm in xtreme3. i appear to have no problems at the moment... this is at my home up north so i dont spent huge announts of time here downloading stuff at the moment..... any idea of a rollout date? i was considdering pipex to get into the house that i'll be renting with friends (student housing).. but now i know about this i'll proabably go with Nildram.. the 30day contract period is much more appealing to a student too!

I had the same problem with pipex, they emailed me threatening connection management and when i reponded asking what was considered acceptable and what was the peak time, i was told that there are no limits and no peak period... 2 months later i was connection managed between 6pm and midnight (their peak hours...) so i decided to hit them as hard as i possibly could, in the last 4 months ive pulled over 1TB from usenet alone, plus torrents, plus browsing basically running 18hours a day to cost them as much as possible in terms of bandwidth. eventually i cancelled my contract early as they were no use at all and I went to bulldog, been going 2 weeks and its great.

Yodasarmpit: you do know nildram are owned by pipex and its all going down the same route as the pipex services.... i left nildram for pipex as the 50GB/unlimited cap was bull as i was capped to 50Gb off peak as well which they then denied, even when i logged into their website and it said do, but nm.

Raalised my bittorrent downloads were slow and then reading this thread has caused me to get on Phone to Pipex; they confirmed the port throttling and also told me this would also occur if went to Pipex Max. Asking about a cancellation fee I was told £58 - gggrrrr.

So what is the best, cheapest, highest capped and unthrottled isp service out there?

Thanks again for opening my eyes.

Yeah I know Pipex own Nildram, but they offer a completely different service.
50Gig peak time is plenty, and you can log in and clearly view your usage stats.

If they start to act up I'll change to someone else, plenty other ISP's out there.

Well, changed my ISP to Nildram and should be up in about 10 days. Present price is £25.99 for maxdsl but they cannot guarantee the price staying at that but did state that no ports are closed or throttled apart from port 25 which is for newsgroups.

Speed test has confirmed I can get 6mb which I am happy about; Pipex who I am currently with are going to charge me £58.75 for leaving within 12 months and a month line rental - this I am furious about.

Like you I was congratulating myself on not having any problems then this week wallop! My emule which would dl at over 100 kBps with 16 concurrent downloads is now staggering along at under 20 and only seems to manage to connect to 2 or 3 sources. (BTW I'm on 2MB Solo).

What to do? Well emule still works after a fashion so leaving it running (Dazzle).

    Interesting article here:
    http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=111654

As they sugegst have got Utorrent and with the ecryption switched on am currently getting a d/l of 60+ so it's clearly not being spotted by Pipex! These figures are while running both programs so it's a work around for those of us who aren't quite ready to jump ship. What else? well get software from other sources such as http://r3mteam.org/ or http://kadets.ru/ddl/ or http://www.soft-best.net/
As for music has anyone tried Piolet? http://www.piolet.com/

I can't help feeling that most ISPs will resort to some form of throttling and I don't want to end up endlessly jumping from one to the next - I aim to misbehave and find ways around!

    Regards Parlous

wow man ur an absolute legend the whole encrytion works brilliantly on azureus, i guess i wont be changing for another while after all, and i still have my newhosting unlimited account so not all bad, but still cant belive that there is no ISP in UK who is completely "umlimted"

edit: i found one lol - Clara.net - only 2mbit available and its £34.99 which is rough but i can see why alot of people will go to them now

edit2: what about https://www.bethere.co.uk/ for those who can get it, any throttling, fair use policies for them?

This is really useful - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm

speeds back to 230kb/s instead of 20kb/s :D
