I have an Audiovox D1708 Portable DVD Player that was given to me. It has sound and the LCD screen lights up, but it is a light tan color as opposed to the normal blue. There is no text or visual output to the screen. As an electronics hobbyist, I was careful to disassemble the unit and activate the laser assembly. The laser moves up and down and then travels about 1/2 inch. It seems to move freely by manual actuation. I have cleaned it without any change. I would appreciate any input as to what might be the problem(s) and any opinion as to whether it is worth keeping. Thanks to all who respond.

This may sound stupid , but on the side of the dvd player is there a switch? (probably near the jacks and volume control.

I have 1 on my dvd player and the dvd player would turn on but no volume or video. I took mine almost all they way apart and found out me mum hit the switch which put it into output mode for tv instead of actually turning the dvd plaer off!
