Project: Grunnsetning 28 September I decided to finally start a log on my new case. It's nothing to fancy, just a clean/stealthy functional Lian Li WCed rig. Yes, a lot of the idea's I am using came from other peoples rigs. Thats the whole point of us all being here. Finding what we like and putting our own little touch to it. So please if you see anything here you'd like to use, i'd be honored if you used it in your own rig. PLEASE POST ANY COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS IN THE DISCUSSION FORUM LOCATED HERE System Info: AMD 64 3200+ FX 5900 Ultra 256mb Video Card Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card 74GB Raptor SATA HD 200GB SATA Seagate just for storage 1 Gig RAM(Generic atm, need to upgrade) Everythings pretty basic from there: 2 DVD drives 1 Floppy 550W PSU Watercooling components: DangerDen TDX 3/8" CPU DangerDen Maze4 3/8" GPU DangerDen 5 1/4 Bay Res Black Ice Extreme3 Radiator DangerDen DDC-12V Pump (upgrading to the DD-D5 tommorrow) DangerDen 3/8" Fillport *Notice ALL of my watercooling gear came from Danger Den I can't stress enough that thier product is of the highest quality and they have the customer service to match. The basic color scheme is Black with some polished pieces/parts. I started off with a basic Lian Li PC-75B, due to the high amount of room inside the case and the quality of Lian Li's in general. My poor brand new case, all apart The first thing I did was determine how I could free up a little room and make the wires for the HDs hidden. After fooling around I came up with this. All I did was take the original HD rack, flip it, turn it, cut it and drilled a few holes for ventilation.Even speaker still fits in the stock location. Next up was cutting a hole in the MB tray to make swapping water blocks a lot easier. Also if I ever want to add a NB waterblock I won't have to take the whole MB out. I started out with making a duplicate of my MB out of 1/4 MDF(since I have all of my gear in another computer atm) and it will give me a template I can cut, sand etc...All I had to do from there was throw it on the router. Then came all of the holes for my wiring to the MB. Next on the list was a mount for my fan controller, it's a Thermaltake 4 fan one that came in a older case I purchased. I just need a mount for the knobs themselves, I didn't want to put the whole ugly 5 1/4 assembly in. So I made my template out of 3/4 MDF. Eventually this piece will be made out of black plexi. Don't mind the uneven screw holes, that was just from mounting the wood to a square. *Note my homemade router table, it was made out of my old computer desk aka. current work bench. I then fitted my barrier strips(to eliminate some of the connectors) And of course a pic of some of the goodies.
While I was deciding on a few other things to do, I decided to go ahead and start polishing a few highly visible areas. * I don't have pics of it polished, just wanted to give yall an idea of where. It has since been taped up for painting. Now it's time to paint the chasis of the case. I didn't want anything to flashy since its going to be hardly visible once I stealth the MB and a lot of other places. So I chose a simple black to go with my simple yet nice looking black/polished look. * The quality is VERY poor in some spots but these are all spots that are in no way visible. After looking at the factory fan grills, I determined they HAD to be polsihed also. *Yes the wires on the backside of the rear fans will be taken care of also. And the PSU/Fan mount was asking for it, mainly just give some contrast to the black. But I didn't take a pic after I polished it either Guess i'm too quick to tape it up before too much dust etc.. builds up on it. Next up was to mount the radiator.Being that I am not using 2 PSU's and I didn't want the res at the bottom, the top was the perfect spot. At the same time I mounted 2 handles. I would liked the Chrome heavy duty handles but they were WAY to big to fit there along with a BI xtreme 3.(I do not lift the case from the handles, it would kill my fingers, I use a strap that has clips on the end and carry it on my shoulder) And after installing the fans and radiator. I am probably going to put some grills on the fans as soon as I find some I like. And no I don't want black screws on the fans, I like the contrast the stainless gives to the black top. I have since swapped all of my hardware into the new case just for fitting purposes and to give me something to game on but I don't have any pics just yet(besides the quicky wiring job is messy). Tommorrow I will recieve my new pump, the DDC-12V is starting to act up upon starting and DangerDen is RMAing it for me but I can't have the downtime so I ordered the better D5 . Still to come is the MB stealthing and maybe some black plexi cover panels for the drives, a matrix orbital fan controller/temp sensor LCD etc...but a little storm named Katrina had something else in mind for me............... That sort of put a screeching halt in my funds for my comp, but I am doing what I can to free up some dough.
My Project Log Please take about my project here. Any suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated. Being that my project is not done, I feel this pic is perfect for the discussion thread. Sorry for the delay on the project but circumstances beyond my control didn't want me to finish it. Everyday I come up with a few different things I would like to do, so theres plenty in the works.
What exactly does "Grunnsetning" mean? In norwegian it translates to "principle" or "maxim" Nice case, will be interesting to see what you do with it
I used to always game under the name Maximus but when gladiator came out everyone started using it. So using a website translator Maximus loosely translated into Grunnsetning. Needless to say, so far I haven't had any trouble getting my name in games
Recieved my DangerDen DD-D5 pump today and it's VERY nice. On its lowest setting it still pumps better than my old DDC-12V and is just as quiet. But when you turn it to setting 5, watch out. Seems like this thing wants to push the front face off of my reservoir, the flow is unreal and the noise hardly goes up at all except for a real fient high pitched whistle. But, i also want to mention I haven't had the sidepanels on the computer with it all the way up so you might not even be able to hear the whistle. I have it put back together minus the MB stealth and the drive stealths but I have some new pics i'll upload tommorrow. it's 3:22 AM here and i'm exhausted.
Got my new pump in today and I love it, along with some misc. fittings/clamps. And the DangerDen Fillport installed. My new pump The picture is misleading, the tubing you see is coming off of the inlet, the picture makes it look like it's sort of just sitting on the inlet. The waterblocks installed. On the top side of the video card I left the factory RAM sink and fan setup. And with the video card installed. Here's the goodies put on the motherboard. A shot of the back with ALOT of fingerprints on the polsihed PSU mount and i'm still deciding what grill I want for the PSU fan. I have it all plumbed and running. I am still waiting on a lot of wires and a few other things but i'll get some more pictures ASAP.
After having everything in the case, I noticed the only 2 fans pulling hot air out of the case is the 2 80mm's on the back and they don't seem to be keeping up with 3-120mm's and 2-80mm's pushing in. So i'm thinking of changing them around some, I just did a quick pic of how i'm thinking of going. Please tell me if you think this is much better in the discussion forum.
Hi there - enjoyed reading your log. Regarding your fan placement question, imo the exact reverse of what you have sketched up would work far better. 1 - hot air rises - so why fight it? 2 - Hdds could use fresh air 3 - GPU and CPU will benefit from cold air pushed directly to them.
Yes, but the GPU and CPU are both watercooled, so no heat there. The only heat in the system is the RAM on the Video card, the RAM itself, the northbridge and the HDD's. Which compared to the CPU and GPU is minimal. Yes hot air does rise BUT I dont want to cool radiator with hot air either. Eventually the NB will be WCed also. The reason I was thinking of this way is so that the key components( CPU/GPU) get the coolest air and best cooling possible. I do see point 1 and 2 though but I really hate to sacrifice better RAM cooling for inferior CPU/GPU cooling.
Id still have to go with 120mms pulling out and others pulling in. Just have the 120's run a littel slower to balance teh airflow.
