I am honored sir. The pinstrips are just a automotive pinstriping i found at the local autozone. i wanted somthing to help protect the edges and dress it up a little. It turned out ALOT better then i thought it would look thanks man,i am glad you guys like it.
I stripped a working one of these laptops for the screen, which I planned to use for a LCD mod, which I soon found out was a waste of time as I'd need an adapter card to run the LCD off. A big waste looking back. I did sell the screen on ebay though, so not a total loss!
For those interested in the performance of Laptops From Last Century, I ran an old Toshiba for half of last year. PII-333 with just 96MB of RAM. With Windows XP. Amazingly, it ran, but suffered plenty for the puny RAM. However, once you had waiting several minutes for it to boot, and got Word, Outlook OR Firefox open (note the OR, not an AND!) it worked just fine. Programs take ages to load, and don't expect to ALT-Tab between stuff quickly, but it was surprisingly usable, in that I wasn't expecting it to be usable at all.
how did you upgrade the cpu though, on every laptop ive ever seen inside the proc is soldered permanently to the motherboard. if some of them are removable, how can i tell without taking my laptop apart?
I went to the dell forums and talked to alot of people. I entered "cpi-a 300 processor upgrade" into there forums search A guy named leduke30 helped me out alot on the hardware side. I also downloaded the service manual and it showed me how to take it apart. Thats how i knew i could do it.
I went to the dell forums and asked it will actualy take a 750 pIII,but there rare and very expensive. its an mmc-2 proc.
ya,it run's pretty good. if i can find my windows 2000 disk,im going to run that, and use knoppix when the urge hits. if i can find a version of linux that "likes" the hardware in this thing, ill goto that
So anybody have any ideas how to light the window?? i cant come up with a good way to power anything to light it. there is room for led's,but i have no clue where to draw power from.
**looks at dell 850** mmm ideas eh! where abouts did you get the upgraded processor... and the ram! my laptops specs are 850mhz p3 256mb pc133 (iirc) 10gb hdd im tempted to try and find a busted one and repaint it, i love the clean look of nicely painted laptops
